Through the Portal our customers get a global picture of how the Akamai system and the Internet are behaving, can fine-tune their web properties, access information about their Internet services and interact with Akamai’s support team. We are seeking an experienced, self-motivated, highly productive software engineer to help develop intuitive interfaces to provide customers access to our large portfolio of Internet content and application acceleration services. An ideal candidate will have strong database and web application programming experience, demonstrated problem solving abilities, good teamwork and communication skills, and the ability to design powerful yet customer-friendly user interfaces. Engineers on the Portal team execute full lifecycle development of a multi-tier web application: requirements analysis, application design, implementation, deployment. We develop primarily in Java and Perl; the application utilizes a relational database to manage customer configuration settings, and a proprietary data store of usage data to provide reports and alerts. The team assists customer support to analyze and solve customer issues related to their area of expertise as needed. Responsibilities include: * Design new customer-oriented web applications. * Help manage change to existing customer applications. * Create a superb user experience focused on usability, performance, and robustness. * Develop and maintain web applications with HTML GUI and SOAP API interfaces. Manage application transactional state using JDBC/RDBMS. * M.Sc. in Computer Science or related field with four years of relevant experience. [Will also accept B.Sc. plus 7 years experience in relevant position as software developer or software engineer.] * Experience developing intuitive customer-facing user interfaces a big plus. * Experience developing web applications using HTML, Javascript, embedded scripting languages, and CSS, particularly with the following technologies: - Java/J2EE including JSP, JSF and JDBC. - XML and SOAP (Web Services) interfaces. - Perl 5 including HTML::Mason, SOAP::Lite, and DBI. - RDBMS (Oracle a plus) including data modeling a plus. - Familiarity with Apache web proxy and Tomcat configuration a plus. * Understanding of Internet protocols, HTTP and Streaming content delivery.
