About the Job We are seeking an experienced, self-motivated, highly productive Sr. Software Engineer with internationalization experience to enhance the existing architecture and software for localization. The ideal candidate will have direct experience successfully internationalizing web application, web application programming experience, demonstrated problem solving abilities, good teamwork and excellent communication skills. Engineers on the Portal team execute full lifecycle development of a multi-tier web application: requirements analysis, application design, implementation, deployment. We develop primarily in Java and Perl, interfacing with various subsystems to drive configuration, reports, and alerts. The team assists customer support to analyze and solve customer issues related to their area of expertise as needed. Responsibilities * Extend the architecture of various portal applications to supported localized language support, and enhance existing applications to leverage this new functionality. * A parallel effort will be to develop a common maintainable internationalization framework to be applied to multiple applications. * Develop and maintain scalable web applications with HTML GUI interfaces that interface with multiple backend subsystems including RDBMS. Basic Qualifications * Education: Master's Degree in Computer Science * Overall Experience: 2-5 years or equivalent experience * 7 years of experience with B.S. Computer Science or equivalent experience * 3 years of experience with Internationalization or equivalent experience Desired Qualifications * M.Sc. in Computer Science or related field with four years of relevant experience. [Will also accept B.Sc. plus 7 years experience in relevant position as software developer or software engineer.] Experience developing intuitive customer-facing user interfaces a big plus. * Experience internationalizing web applications with multiple character encodings using HTML, Javascript, embedded scripting languages, and CSS, particularly with the following technologies: - Java/J2EE including JSP, JSF, Struts, and JDBC. - XML and SOAP (Web Services) interfaces. - Perl 5 including HTML::Mason, SOAP::Lite, and DBI. - RDBMS (Oracle preferred), including data modeling a plus. - Familiarity with Apache web proxy and Tomcat configuration a plus. * Understanding of Internet protocols and distributed systems experience a plus.
