Manager (Manager/Supervisor of Staff) Education Level: Bachelor's Degree Job Summary: Manage a staff of storage and virtualization administrators in implementing, maintaining and growing an enterprise storage and virtualization environment that provides 7/24 service, and performance and scalability as required by our users and business applications. The ideal candidate will be able to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced team environment with relevant experience in: • Virtualization infrastructure (VMWare) • Storage technologies (NetApp, EMC, etc.) • Linux and Linux clustering • Performance tuning • Automation • Centralized backup systems Responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Managing the Enterprise Storage Team o Help grow the team to meet our storage needs and requirements o Manage our operational needs and project requirements o Write proposals to support upgrades and to expand our storage and virtualization capabilities o Manage a team of 4 storage and virtualization professionals • Supporting all storage, virtualization, and backup operational activities o Tuning, trending and monitoring activities for a 7x24 worldwide environment o Performance management o Infrastructure and project support o Disaster recovery support • Working closely with Application managers to provide appropriate solutions and support o Device and space allocations as needed o New system designs, planning and layout o Device and array performance monitoring and reporting o Growth control by monitoring allocated vs. used space o Automated notifications of failures and potential issues o Maintain performance by monitoring data growth and load shifts o Track trends and address or escalate as required o Periodic Hardware/Software health checks/patching o Backup Scheduling and DR support o Responsible for data recovery SLA's which are in line with application requirements Responsibilities: Responsibility and Support for our growing SAN and NAS environments – Our SAN/NAS environments consists of over 160 TB of storage. The Enterprise Storage Manager will be responsible for providing 7/24 support and will need to proactively work with several business areas to manage and monitor growth so that SLAs for storage and performance requirements are satisfied. The Manager needs to be skilled at developing proposals to expand our storage infrastructure to meet business requirements. SAN Infrastructure: 3 Storage Arrays totaling 80 TB NAS Infrastructure: 14 Clusters totaling totaling 80 TB Responsibility and Support for our Virtualization Environment – We currently have over a 150 VMs, and we are looking at other new technologies to virtualize our development labs and to adopt dynamic provisioning. The Enterprise Storage Manager will be responsible for supporting our 7/24 VM environment and will work with other IT groups to look for opportunities to increase our VM infrastructure in order to save on power, space, and cooling requirements. VM Infrastructure: Two ESX Clusters (one of 4 nodes and of 2 nodes) with a total of ~150 VMs Responsibility and Support for our Backup Infrastructure – The Enterprise Storage Manager will be responsible for making sure that our backups are working properly and will need to scale up our backup infrastructure to satisfy our SLAs and to support our growth in SAN and NAS technology. Backup Infrastructure: 2 NetApp R200s, 1 production Netbackup Master Server (configured as a Veritas HA cluster), 1 production ADIC i500 with LTO3 drives, 1 test Netbackup Master Server (configured as a Veritas HA cluster), 1 test ADIC i500 tape library with LTO3 drives. Management and Project Responsibilities – The Enterprise Storage Manager will work closely with Project Managers and other IT Managers to monitor and manage projects, accurately report project status on a timely basis and work with application managers to develop and start new projects. Qualifications: • BS /MS in computer science or related field. • 8-10 years of relevant experience with at least 3 years of management experience • Experience with NAS and SAN technologies, in particular with EMC and Network Appliance • Experience with Virtualization technology, in particular with VMware • Experience in implementing and managing monitoring tools and resources• Clear written and verbal communication skills. • Unix/Linux/Windows administration experience • Experience implementing, maintaining, and managing a virtualization environment • Strong Networking skills • Strong trouble shooting skills Company: The MathWorks, Inc.Reference Code: 6458 ©2006 The MathWorks, Inc.
