Apple is an Equal Opportunity Employer. www.apple.com/jobs Position Description:Job DescriptionApple's Technical Publications group is looking for engineers able to write or writers with an engineering background to help expand and deepen our technical documentation for iPhone OS and Mac OS X.Writers are responsible for writing documentation for Apple's third-party developer audience. This material includes API reference, programming guides, and release notes. In the course of this job you will work closely with engineers, editors, and art directors to formulate comprehensive document plans, art plans, and documentation schedules. Successful writers develop questions, locate and research sources of information, and incorporate the results into document drafts quickly and efficiently, conveying the material to a third-party audience. The ability to deeply understand a technology based on your own programming investigation as well as conversations with engineers is key to developing effective documentation.As a senior technical writer, you will serve as lead writer on moderately complex to complex documentation projects, as well as participating in larger projects along side other writers. When working on new technology under development, senior writers participate actively in design and API review with the engineering team, improving a new API before it is documented by serving as early adopters and third-party advocates in the API development process.Senior technical writers are expected to perform these additional tasks as part of their job:* Develop a deep understanding of publications processes and tools* Collect and incorporate feedback on draft documents to ensure accuracy and completeness* Schedule and lead document review meetings* Gain knowledge of new technologies and operating system features* Develop and publish sample code for key functionality in assigned areas* Work with cross-functional teams to keep documentation up-to-date and provide new documentation when necessary* Participate in Apple's annual developer's conference (WWDC)* Help to develop new strategies for communicating technical information to developersRequired ExperienceTechnical writers at Apple must be experienced with object-oriented programming development and demonstrate proven ability writing code. Strong writing skills are essential and will be evaluated based on writing samples and your resume.
