Software Developer, AJAX, C#, MySQL

Ascend Intel LLC is private research company located in Arlington, VA. Our primary focus is performing research and developing software for the Department of Defense and other government agencies.  We are looking for candidates with good problem solving skills and development experience with C#, Ajax, and SQL.  Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work on a variety of challenging research projects. Prospective applicants should expect a small company work environment where each employee is working on a variety of projects.  Projects range from 1 month - 6 months in duration and the normal expectation would be for each developer to be focused on a primary project while helping on other projects during crunch time and performing bug fixes on projects that are already completed and deployed to customers.   Project teams sizes are generally 1-2 developers (sometimes as many as 4). Note on skills / technologies: None of the skills/technologies are required, but are simply listed in the order of their importance to our existing software.  An applicant's overall problem solving skills and general software development experience are most important.  However, the more an applicant's skill set overlaps with the skills listed below, the better. Primary Skills: C#, AJAX, Windows Development, Visual Studio, Relational Database (SQL)Secondary Skills / Knowledge: Windows Administration, Multi-threaded apps, sockets - TCP/IP, OO JavaScript, GIS, distributed systems, cross-browser development, Flash, Linux Other Specific Technologies We Use: .NET, IIS, ASPX, HTML, MySql, MS Office APIs, MySql Stored Procedures, SQL Locking, SQL Connection Pooling, SVN Source Control, VML, SVG, Windows Services, JavaThe following is a brief summary of one of our current projects:Front End: JavaScript / AJAX based Google Maps like front end with editable GIS data (events that happened at a particular location, GPS tracks, map overlays such as highlighting a city boundary).  This is a long-lived JavaScript application (The end user treats this just like he/she would any non-web application), once a page is loaded, it only changes via AJAX calls and is expected to operate for many hours without requiring a page reload. Back End: Custom C# / MySQL distributed database that runs in a poorly connected network environment (network links go down frequently, some links are over satellite and very slow).  Because of the network environment, the 'distributed' part of the database is done outside of MySQL with custom protocols over TCP/IP sockets.
