Software Engineer - Visualization and more

Applied Visions is a software engineering and R&D firm located on the north shore of Long Island, just 45 miles from downtown New York City. We are located in the quaint village of Northport, right on the shore of beautiful Northport Harbor. It's a great place to write great software.

We create innovative software applications for commercial and government customers, with an emphasis on visual interfaces to complex data. We work in a variety of application domains using diverse technologies, so you will always have lots of opportunities to learn new and exciting things.

Our work applies to many domains including information security, infrastructure protection, financial markets, data mining, and defense- and intelligence-oriented visualization applications. Much of our work is funded R&D, so you will have a chance to apply your own creativity to solving critical national security challenges.

Our technology approach includes innovative abstract information visualization techniques, along with new and unusual applications of computer gaming technology to operational problems. We use game engines to enable dynamic three-dimensional interaction with mission data for planning, training, rehearsal, and execution of operations: serious games for serious business.

We match our technologies to our customer needs, so you will work with either (or both) of Microsoft .NET/C# and Java/Eclipse-RCP on both Windows and Linux.

You will play a significant role in developing exciting new applications for demanding customers. You will work closely with them to develop their vision, gather requirements, shape projects, define tasks, and build solutions. Strong analytical and communications skills are a must.

While most of your work will be done here at our Northport facility, this position will require you to occasionally visit the customer site as well.

Skills you will need include:1-5 years experience with .NET / C#, and/or1-5 years experience with Java, Eclipse and RCP, andA demonstrated focus on user-interface design and/or information visualization is a major plusExperience with Microsoft MFC is another plusGood written and verbal communications skills
