Software Quality Engineer

Primary function: To be responsible for special projects in the area of quality control and to coordinate between product assurance and other appropriate departments, customers or vendors to assure completeness and accuracy of specifications and/or procedures. Duties: 1. Conducts studies in quality control methods/systems for testing and inspection; initiates necessary changes for improvement. 2. Originates statistical controls to improve quality and keeps informed of developments in statistical quality field. 3. Coordinates quality specifications an procedures with other departments, customers and vendors. 4. Collects and analyzes quality control statistics and determines when corrective action is necessary. 5. Investigates tooling, planning, methods and fabrication to discover source of production errors and to devise means for their correction. 6. Studies product defects, recommends modifications in quality standards when warranted and prepares reports outlining cause of defects and corrective action. 7. Investigates customer complaints relating to imperfect finish, incomplete units, faulty electrical systems, etc., and recommends corrective test and inspection activities. 8. Performs vendor source inspection and evaluation as required. 9. Coordinates customer source inspection of company's facilities as required. 10. Provides work direction to inspectors and other quality analysts as required. 11. Performs other related duties as assigned. Position requirements: Specific training, skills and experience needed to perform the job demonstrated competence as a quality control analyst, normally acquired through two (2) years experience in that or equivalent position. Thorough understanding of quality assurance technology including related statistical methods, and proficiency at independently handling complex qualify control projects. Aa in quality assurance or an asqc certification is desirable and may substitute for part of the experience requirements. Scope: As assigned.QualificationsPosition Requirements:The employee in this intermediate-level position is expected to be able to perform his/her assignments more independently, with some general directions from a lead Software Quality Engineer. The position typically requires a B. S. degree in Engineering, Computer Science or other related technical discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience. Some limited experience in Software Engineering, Software Quality Engineering, or a related field is also required.
