The solutions engineering team at Blackboard is a team of sales professionals with deep understanding of Blackboard solutions, including product, services, support, ASP, and market expertise. Solution engineers work with regional sales managers, client managers, and services professionals as strategic partners in crafting the solution and the vision of the solution with the client in order to ensure success in the sales cycle.  The Solutions Engineering Manager serves as both a manager and an individual contributor on the team.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Management Responsibilities include:

 Leadership, mentoring, and performance management of Commerce solutions engineersDevelopment of individual and group management objectivesManagement of group knowledge and skill-setLiaison with Product Management, Services, and Support for Solution Engineers Budgeting and expense management

 

Solutions Engineer Responsibilities include:

 Serve as a senior expert in Blackboard Commerce products, including their architecture, functionality, industry application, and deployment methodologies Engage in strategic conversations regarding Blackboard product capabilities and benefits with customer constituents Work with regional Sales Managers and Client Managers to sell product strategic value, develop client-focused solutions and document solutions in proposals Provide rapid, accurate responses to questions from sales staff in the field Provide information and recommendations to assist with the development of responses to RFPs/RFIs. Setup product demonstration and evaluation environments and oversee evaluation process Other duties as assignedTravel approximately 50-60% of time

 
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

 Previous management experience (3+ years preferable)Proven ability to delegate tasks appropriatelyDemonstrated leadership capabilitiesBachelors degree, advanced degree preferred in information technology management or instructional technology 3 - 5 years of pre-sales support experience, preferably in an enterprise sales/security environment Experience working in a higher education sector is a plus, preferably in higher education student services technology management Strong oral and written communication skills Ability to work independently and be self-motivated Understanding of transaction system and security design and architecture.Proven ability to craft a solution and develop proposals and RFP responses with appropriate products and services based on client discussions Proven ability to engage effectively at the executive-level
