Sr. Oracle Database Engineer

Will perform analysis of complex database structures and perform database and system capacity studies. Installs, configures, supports, tunes and maintains numerous Oracle databases in production, staging, test, dev, implementation, and maintenance environments. Knowledgeable in all aspects of system DBA, including database architecture, database & SQL tuning, standby databases, database object deployment, and RAC . Reviews and provides input into complex functional specifications and design documents to assist the product team and applications development group for the business database. Provides thorough and detailed database and systems monitoring ensuring that the databases and servers are performing in an acceptable manner. Off hours support is necessary for 24x7 systems. Responsible for database security. Will work closely with systems engineering staff for hardware and systems software requirements and solutions. Responsible for Disaster Recovery planning and execution. Receives general supervision. Self starter. Competent to work independently at the highest technical level most of the time.Provides guidance to and assists in training less experienced Database Engineers. Provides technical and functional guidance. Will act as a technical leader.Job involves occasional out of state travel.

Qualifications:

Experience and Requirements3-5 years experience as a Database Engineer in an Oracle development and production environment. System experience required: Unix and Linux Operating systems & utilities, Veritas File system and Veritas Cluster Filesystem. Strong Shell scripting skills are a must, Perl and Ant are desired. Experience with RMAN, Oracle RAC, OEM, Oracle Application Server, Oracle Forms/Reports Services are required. Additional knowledge in Rational ClearCase, ClearQuest are desired. Knowledge of complex SQL, PL/SQL and an understanding of application and query analysis and tuning necessary. Experience in a complex heterogeneous computer environment required, including advanced knowledge of platforms that support Linux, Solaris, and MS Windows. Oracle experience required with additional significant database experience useful. Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Ability to work under pressure of time constraints and to prioritize assignments necessary. Ability to mentor. EducationBachelors Degree in Computer Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or equivalent education and experience required.
