Sr. Software Engineer - DHCP & L2 Protocols Development

Job Description: As a member of our exciting MSER (multi-service edge router) Control Plane team, you will develop and enhance software on our industry leading Smart Edge product line. Our SmartEdge Multi-Service Edge Router platform solves a number of problems that would normally require multiple devices - it integrates Ethernet aggregation, IP routing and subscriber management functions all in one box! Typically these functions would be handled by three separate network devices. Therefore, it reduces operational effort and simplifies deployment of new services. The SmartEdge solution helps service providers build broadband networks that can deliver triple play services like: IPTV, Video on Demand, Video Conferencing, Virtual Private Networks, Broadband Aggregation, Wi-Fi solutions, Multimedia Networks, and Edge Routing.Overview:* Design, develop, implement and enhance Subscriber Management features in the SmartEdge Operating Systems * Full life-cycle development on DHCPv4 & DHCPv6 and other Layer 2 Protocol projects * Specific focus on Access Protocols * Analyze customer and marketing requests for feasibility, costs and development effort * Analyze customer defect reports and provide workarounds and resolutions * Write technical specificationsJob Requirements: Candidate Profile:• 2 - 15 years of embedded software development experience in the area of networking and IP protocols. • Hands-on experience implementing multi-tasking and/or multi-threaded applications. • Experience implementing and enhancing protocols: DHCP, DHCPv6, dot1q, L2CP, PPP, PPPoE, PPPoX, L2TP and/or related access protocols • Software development experience in: DHCP server, proxy, relay agent, and/or client; DHCPv6 developemt experience (IPv4/IPv6) a big plus! • Excellent C programming skills is a MUST. • Solid understanding of Operating Systems fundamentals and embedded kernels; NetBSD, VxWorks, or related multi-threaded RTOS. • Experience with debugging tools, i.e. GDB or equivalent. • Excellent troubleshooting abilities, strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills. • BS in CS or equivalent is required. • Understanding of B-RAS functionalities with working knowledge of broadband aggregation product lines is a big plus. • Specific or general IPv6 experience will be a big plus. • Dot1q experience: support VLAN, QnQ, stacked VLAN, 802.1q, etc - a plus cal, communication, and Company: Redback Networks, Inc.Location: San Jose, CA 95134Status: Full Time, EmployeeJob Category: IT/Software DevelopmentRelevant Work Experience: 5+ to 7 YearsCareer Level: Experienced (Non-Manager)Education Level: Bachelor's Degree
