We are actively recruiting for a Sr. Software Engineer to join our Professional Services team. This position can work from our following offices: Denver, CO or Oakland, CA. Position Summary:Develop, create, and modify general computer applications software using Fiserv coding practices and methods. Code will be written to accurately reflect written specifications supplied as part of each software project. Will also play a major role in code review. Senior Software Engineer will work on key client projects. They will work directly with the client and the internal project team. Professional Services is responsible for project management, project execution and implementation activities within Fiserv.Essential Functions/Responsibilities:The Senior Software Engineer is accountable for specific coding of assigned sub-projects. The Senior Software Engineer will:Be the Technical Lead for the analysis and design for software subsystems.Provides accurate estimates for analysis, design and development activities for subsystems.Has good understanding of the requirements in the area of functionality being developed.Develops technical documentation for subsystem in accordance with defined software architecture and applicable project design standards.Works with Business Architect in collaboration sessions to capture business requirements in the form of Use Cases.Autonomously codes software from technical documentation.Codes and executes unit tests.Updates technical documentation and unit tests when making software changes.Debugs code, makes and tests code fixes.Adheres to defined coding standards and other defined quality standards.Reviews code and designs from other team members and provides constructive feedback.Adheres to project development processes including documentation, defect tracking, software configuration management, status reporting and QA processes.Participates in and contributes to software architectural design discussions.Performs other duties as required.Job Requirements, Skills, Abilities, Education/Certification/License/TrainingYears of Experience:Minimum of seven years software development experience, including core enterprise business applications.Requires software industry experience; insurance industry experience is highly desired.Skills and Knowledge:In-depth knowledge of Java programming language and J2EE architecture– as defined by Fiserv’s technical screening questions for Senior Software Engineer.Superior knowledge of SQL, including complex multi-table queries. Understanding of logical database design and physical database structures.Strong knowledge and experience of RDBMS, especially tuning of complex database queries.Understanding of complex multi-user issues, concurrency and transaction management.Advanced knowledge of key Fiserv standard development tools: WSAD/Eclipse, UML modeling tools.Working knowledge of other Fiserv standard development tools: JProbe Suite, ClearCase, StarTeam.Proficiency with desktop applications (Outlook mail and calendar, MS Office applications).Knowledge of analysis, design and implementation disciplines in RUP and of overall iterative software development lifecycle.Demonstrable understanding of OO software design.Excellent oral and written communication skills – able to present designs, and facilitate design discussions.The ability to interact with external and internal clients.Advanced knowledge of key Fiserv standard development tools: WSAD/Eclipse, ClearCase, StarTeam.Working knowledge of Flash is a plus.Insurance software experience, specifically Workers Compensation, is an asset but is not required.Education/Certifications/Training:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and/or related field; related work experience can be substituted for educational requirement.IBM Certified Solution Developer – WebSphere Studio V5.0 –Will be a plus.Sun Certified Programmer for Java 2 or higher - Will be a plus.Physical Conditions/Requirements:Position requires the ability to hear and communicate clearly, orally and in writing.
