Sr. Software Engineer, Systems and Storage Management Server

Responsibilities
VMware Inc., a pioneer in virtualization software for industry-standard computers, is seeking a senior software engineer with strong distributed systems, client-server and scalable applications development experience. The candidate will participate in and provide technical leadership for the design of our systems and server management module which will be a part of the next generation of ESX.  ESX server is a robust, production-proved virtualization layer than abstracts processor, memory, storage and networking resources into multiple virtual machines.  ESX Server delivers the highest levels of performance, scalability and flexibility required for enterprise IT environments.



· Design and develop systems and server management capabilities

· Backend server side application development of APIs
· Work with storage array partners to ensure they interoperate with ESX

· Work with QA engineers and ensure software testability, quality and stability
· Work with the documentation team and ensure good quality documentation of the product and API

Requirements
· Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science or equivalent
· Minimum 2 years of industry experience
· Strong experience developing client-server or distributed, multithreaded applications in C++
· Experience in building systems-management and monitoring products a big plus

· Experience in object-oriented design methodology and techniques

· Proven ability to deliver commercial quality software

· Understanding of System architecture, including processors, storage and networking is highly desirable
· Excellent communication skills and must be able to interface with customers as necessary
· Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills

· Experience developing storage management software using SMI-S or similar technologies desirable

· Experience with CIM desirable
