System Administrator

Position Description:

RealNetworks, Inc. is the leading creator of the digital media services and software--Rhapsody, RealArcade, and RealPlayer. Broadcasters, media companies, network operators, and other enterprises use our products and services to manage and deliver digital media to personal computers, mobile phones, and other consumer electronics devices. RealNetworks Technical Operations (TOPS) department provides world-class, enterprise-wide, infrastructure management in support of hosted applications, streaming media delivery, and ASP services in the Americas, Asia/Pacific, Europe, Middle East, and Africa.The role of systems administrator is to be a key contributor to the ongoing management, maintenance and support of a large corporate landscape of servers which fulfill the function of streaming media content, conducting electronic commerce and diverse web services.Essential Functions include but not limited to are Systems Management, New Server Builds, Project Assignments and Diagnostic Work.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:• Minimum 3 years of Unix Skills, Networking, TCP/IP, Apache, Roxen, TomCat, Proxy Path, Redirects, hardware and OS debugging skills, shell scripting• Strong interpersonal and communications skills; working closely with peers and business unit management.• Ability to solve problems quickly and automate processes.• A solid understanding of an operating system; understands paging and swapping, inter-process communications, devices and what device drivers do, filesystem concepts (inode, clustering, logical partitions), can use performance analysis to tune systems.• A solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts; understands principles of routing, client/server programming, the design of consistent network-wide filesystem layouts.• Ability to program in an administrative language (bash, java, perl, PHP)Education, Certification, and/or Training:Minimum 2 years of experience with Linux and security best practicesPreferred:Linux (RedHat) CertificationExperience:- Minimum 2 years of experience - Demonstratable working knowledge of the current industry standards of web based computing technology
