Systems Administrator working with Unix and other systems

Description: 

MicroStrategy is looking for a Systems Administrator that has the capacity to work in Unix and other Systems environments. We are looking for a junior to mid-level systems administrator that is looking to expand their current skill set and work with a multidisciplinary team. 

 

Duties: 

•The Systems Administrator will be responsible for proactive and reactive software and hardware maintenance: hardware/software installation, diagnostics, upgrades, network, Operating System Tuning.

• Be available for the development of questions and recommend a logical solution and/or corrective action for possible problems that may occur.

•The Systems Administrator will be responsible for automating administrative tasks in UNIX and other environments and performing scripting, shell, Perl and monitoring.

• The Systems Administrator will be responsible for constantly recommending avenues to improve the UNIX development infrastructure and/or processes.

• The Systems Administrator will document and maintain documentation on the UNIX infrastructure in an ever changing and dynamic process. `

• Develop, test and validate Disaster and Recovery plans.

• Develop system security strategies in UNIX infrastructure

 



Requirements:


• Bachelor’s or Masters degree (in Mathematics, Science, Computer Science or Engineering), GPA: 3.3+

 

• Must have solid troubleshooting skills and ability to perform all levels of systems administration.

• Strong analytical skills.


• Working knowledge of Solaris, or HP-UX, AIX or Linux is required.

•Understanding of NIS, NFS is a  must.

 

• Hands on experience with shell scripting or Perl are desirable.

• Experience of applying patches, security management,
upgrades, interoperability issues, application troubleshooting.

• Experience with Veritas and/or Tivoli backup management software, and SAN is required.

• Ability to learn and excel in a multi-tasking, and multi-platform development environment .

• Ability to troubleshoot network and adjust server performance related problems.

 

• Professional Certifications on any of the following Operating Systems: AIX, Solaris, HP-UX, Linux are a plus.

 

• Experience of administering Samba is also a plus.
