Systems Architect II

Solution ArchitectWe are looking for highly-motivated individuals with outstanding technical skills to join our Enterprise Architecture team. The Solution Architect reports to the IS&T Chief Architect and has primary responsibility for providing system architecture for systems and projects in our IS&T organization. This ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4 to 7 years of relevant work experience in IT applications environments, act as the highest-level solution expert, addressing systems, software, integration, and compatibility issues. He/she reviews major business application and technology requirements, works with customers to create an architectural baseline for solutions, as well as with line-of-business and technology groups to promote technology buy-in and understanding. The Solution Architect is also responsible for reviewing applications, workflow, systems and network management, and infrastructure for opportunities to improve effectiveness and efficiency. When working on projects, the Solution Architect is accountable for specifying the target architecture and supporting the project to a successful completion. In some cases he/she may function as technical manager to perform other project duties as needed. Responsibilities: - Architect solutions in projects on the IS&T Area. - Define and promote enterprise architecture standards and strategies - Design and apply enterprise system and application solutions to meet business objectives - Provide architecture implementation support for technology projects - Support executive management and project teams in technology decisions and implementation of technology strategyRequirements: - Experience in diverse system and application design in large heterogeneous enterprise environments - Excellence in designing and implementing multi-tiered enterprise applications (J2EE, RDBMS etc.), EAI, and integration middleware - Strong background and demonstrated knowledge of SOA and BPM concepts and technologies - Knowledge of enterprise IT processes and service management (e.g. ITIL, COBIT, TOGAF) - Excellence in verbal and written communication at all organizational levels - Information Security experience a plus - Desired experience in the software industry - Ability to work independently and efficiently, managing timelines and expectations, and producing high-quality deliverables - Ability to analyze problems, process complex data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions - Open and willing to learn new technologies to provide solutions when required - Experience architecting solutions in the following technologies is a big plus: CRM, ERP, HR, Web Applications - Good understanding of SOA, Application integration patterns, UML based modeling, and Agile development methodology - Able to provide solutions aligned with Open Source technologies - Process-Oriented Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field required. - Minimum 5 years of IT technical experience evaluating and proposing alternatives for resolving key technology issues. - Minimum 3 years, recent object oriented (J2EE) application design methodology and hands-on development experience, required. - Experience with strategic planning and ability to work with/present to Senior/Executive Management - Strong systems hardware and software engineering background with ability to map requirements to technical solution. - Strong ability to evaluate and critique staff ability to grasp new technologies - Broad understanding of company business issues and their integration with broad and complex information systems applications. - Effective communication skills, leadership skills, presentation skills, problem-solving skills, project management skills, teaming skills and organizational skills. - Self-motivated, self-supervised and solution driven - Customer-DrivenNovell is an equal opportunity employer and an advocate for workforce diversity.
