Systems Engineer

 

This position will be part of the Systems Infrastructure team that supports a 24 / 7 server environment.  They will be responsible for system engineering projects and day-to-day duties.  This position will be involved in both team and individual projects and require a highly technical candidate that can document and communicate well with team members both in person and in writing.  This position will be familiar with departmental operating procedures and provide assistance as needed for site deployments and application roll outs.

 

Job Duties / Expectations:

 

* Interface between team members and other teams.

* Provide technical assistance to other team members and helpdesk staff.

* Act as technical escalation for problem resolution and troubleshooting.

* Support heterogeneous environment with multi vendor server deployments.

* Deploying blades and rack mounted server environments.

* Provisioning Web / Application servers for Production and DR environments.

* Maintaining server hardware across all environments.

* Patch and Version management.

* Resolve any server issues within our infrastructure.

* Support worldwide Active Directory, Exchange and File Server environment.

* Support multiple Microsoft Cluster installations.

 

Job Requirements:

 

* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent, MCSE, MCITP certifications a plus. High School diploma or equivalent is required.

* Must have 5+ years of experience in a Microsoft shop, with at least 3 years as a Systems Engineer / Systems Administrator. 

* Experience with VERITAS Net Backup OR Backup Exec required.

* Windows XP, Server 2000 and Server 2003 required.

* Microsoft Cluster Servers required.

* Must have knowledge of at least one of the following monitoring applications:  MOM, HP SIM, Dell Open Manage, Open View, Site Scope, Solarwinds, etc.

* Network knowledge (IP Schemes / ICMP / etc.) required.

* DNS / DHCP / WINS knowledge and troubleshooting skills required.

* Must be available and willing to work extended and/or alternative hours as needed for roll-outs, system upgrades, etc.

* Ability to work independently to meet goals and objectives with minimal supervision.

* Provide on-call support during off hours (for 1 week, every 7th week).

* Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

* Must work well with others as part of larger team.
