Systems Manager

POSITION OVERVIEW:   The Federal Judiciary for the Northern District of Texas has an opening in our Dallas office for a Systems Manager.  The Systems Manager will serve as the resident expert on configuring network components and associated services, and will supervise a small IT staff.  This position will report to the Director of Information Technology.  Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Conduct site surveys, design cable plans and network configurations, and provide oversight, inspection, and evaluation of contractor installations Installation and configuration of network printers, routers, switches, etc. Administration of Microsoft systems including Windows 2003 Server, SQL Server, and IIS in a heterogeneous environment, including installation of patches, performing backups, monitoring audit logs and error files Analyze and resolve problems associated with server hardware and software Work with IT staff to define requirements and standards; develop and implement plans for deploying new services Assist in project planning, design, and implementation of new services and applications Participate in the development and improvement of monitoring systems

 This district is one of the largest in the U.S., with offices in Dallas (Headquarters), Abilene, Amarillo, Arlington, Benbrook, Ft. Worth, Garland, Lubbock, San Angelo, Westmoreland Park, and Wichita Falls, serving a 100-county area.

 

CLASSIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Three years specialized experience, including at least one year of experience equivalent to work one level below a CL-29 Systems Manager

Specialized Experience means progressively responsible administrative, technical, professional, supervisory or managerial experience that provided an opportunity to gain: Skill in dealing with others in person-to-person work relationships The ability to exercise mature judgment A knowledge of the basic concepts, principles, and theories of management and the ability to understand the managerial policies applicable to the judiciary unit

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

In order to effectively supervise the work and staff of an IT department, it is also required that the incumbent possess the following demonstrated skills and abilities:

  A self starter with at least five years working in a Microsoft production server environment MCSE (Windows 2003) required Excellent oral/written communication skills with strong interpersonal skills to interface effectively with users, peers, and management Plan, assign and review work, including priorities and time schedules Handle confidential matters discreetly Revise or develop processes gto increase productivity and quality of work               

PREFERRED SKILLS:

 

  Novell and Citrix experience Prior supervisory experience
