Systems Support Specialist Senior

Job Description:  · Identifies, debugs, and resolves a wide range of moderately complex problem situations within the test or production environments. Ensures all on-line systems are available as scheduled for client and customer utilization. · Provide 24x7 system management / engineering support for the SuRPAS OpenVMS platforms.· Install and configure new versions of OpenVMS.· Install and test software patches.· Install and test firmware upgrades.· Configure/reconfigure and support disk subsystems, including CPU-independent storage area networks.· Install layered products.· Install, configure and support network-related products.· Provide support of OpenVMS clustering, both local and wide-area.· Provide support of disk subsystem volume shadowing/mirroring and backup/restore procedures.· Provide support of OpenVMS security management.· Participate in the development of new systems architectures.· Install, configure, test, implement, trouble-shoot and upgrade OpenVMS systems-related hardware, e.g., CPUs, disk subsystems, terminal servers, network-related equipment, etc.· Collaborate with the Department’s Applications Development, PC Operations and Network Support Units in matters related to the OpenVMS platforms.Travel is very limited, however it is required  Required Skills:  KNOWLEDGE: Working knowledge in a professional field to work independently. Understands developments in field and their impact on work. EDUCATION: Technical/Trade/Business School Certificate/Associates Degree or equivalent experienceJOB-RELATED EXPERIENCE: A minimum of five years INTERACTIVE COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND INFLUENCE: Provide or request straightforward information.WRITTEN COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND INFLUENCE: Write basic reports or correspondence, where examples of both format and content exist and require little modification. May involve documenting technical results/procedures.CLIENT CONTACTS: Maintains effective contacts within PFPC at various levels in the organization. Begins to build external client contacts and is regularly available and responsive to their business needs. Seeks feedback from clients to ensure that expectations are met.PEOPLE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: No direct management responsibility.PROJECT MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: Guides the successful completion of moderate projects and may function in a project leadership role.LEADERSHIP: Demonstrates leadership in a work group, team or project.PROBLEM SOLVING: Applies knowledge to determine solutions to complex problems with minimal direction.
