TSM Engineer

GDI InfoTech, Inc. has immediate opening for a TSM Engineer with our client based in Charlotte, NC. This is a 3+ month’s contract opportunity.

Description –

Support large-scale data center relocation for distributed systems servers (Windows, UNIX) using Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM). Engineer and support TSM running on IBM/AIX servers in a new data center, including application configuration optimization, policy management, storage pool configuration and maintenance, tape library interface configuration, storage pool occupancy management, TSM database maintenance, and system documentation. Work closely with data center migration team to plan and execute data migrations needed for applications running on distributed servers using TSM.

 

Responsibilities to be managed –Work with data center migration team to plan export/import of existing TSM backup data from old to new data center based upon application migration schedules Oversee all TSM backup data migration activities for the project Ensure all historical TSM backup data has been exported from the old data center location and oversee decommissioning of old TSM servers prior to project completion Provide support for TSM Windows and Unix server clients, TDP clients (SQL and Oracle), LAN-free clients, and NDMP clients Define new nodes, backup schedules, new associations on TSM servers in the new data center Provide on call 24x7 support for distributed server data migration issues and local TSM infrastructure problems Support new TSM servers in new data center location working from a remote location Monitor TSM tape library management interface and address any issues Perform periodical Health Checks for TSM servers used for migration activities and resolve all issues Monitor TSM database, recovery log and storage pools Monitor TSM DRM processes, adjust as needed Perform performance tuning on the server and clients to optimize TSM and ensure proper operation

 

Skills and Qualifications – Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to work independently on a virtual team in a fast-paced dynamic environment Must adhere to corporate standards and problem/change management policies 5+ years experience as administrator of Tivoli Storage Manager Server (TSM) running on the IBM/AIX server platform 5+ years experience of AIX system administration Experience with large scale data center migrations are a plus Excellent conceptual and analytical skills Professional certifications (e.g. AIX, TSM) are a plus Must be able to produce technical documentation, perform data analysis and create network architecture diagrams
