Technical Writer / Documenter

Visual Analytics, Inc., a leading developer of software for use by law enforcement agencies, the intelligence community, and corporate businesses, is in need of a full time Technical Writer / Documenter.

 

This position requires a creative and imaginative individual capable of generating a wide range of materials to describe and support the operations and features of our advanced product suites (VisuaLinks and DIG). The required skill set includes technical writing/editing, online documentation, simulations, interactive help, and other related items.

 

We are located in Poolesville, Maryland (just north/west of Gaithersburg/Rockville), however are relocating to Old Town / downtown Frederick, MD in the summer of 2008.

Job Description Support the creation of a wide number of tangible products for use by the VAI user community. Design, develop and maintain production documentation programs including printed and online deliverables (Installation Guides, Administration Guides, User’s Guides, Online Help, Release Notes, etc.) Design, develop and maintain product training including sample scenarios, relevant training aids and interactive, web-based training content Work with technical support and software engineers to develop and maintain user support materials such as knowledgebase content, troubleshooting aids and other relevant material Design and develop interactive support programs Design and implement documentation styles and templates

Technical Requirements Technical knowledge and 3+ years of experience in the following: Planning and defining the content of documentation and training programs RoboHelp and other Macromedia products (Flash or Captivate) Microsoft Office products (PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) Good organization skills Ability to prioritize tasks to simultaneously handle several projects Database experience a plus

Education Requirement A degree in English, Journalism or Technical CommunicationLocation of Position VAI Headquarters (currently located in Poolesville, MD; relocating to Frederick, MD summer of 2008)Travel On an as-needed basisCitizenship Required U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required
