Telecommunications Engineer

DTN is seeking a Telecommunications Engineer to join our team of IT professionals. The Telecom Engineer will provide 24 X 7 support and management of a large WAN infrastructure. This individual will support the installation of the backbone infrastructure which includes WAN links such as; T1’s, DS3’s, OC12’s, and SONET services.

FUNCTIONS:
• Investigating critical issues, isolating and rectifying problems for Terrestrial and IP networks.
• Respond to system alarms, system events and customer complaints through the use of technical troubleshooting skills and communicate findings to appropriate customer service teams.
• Proactive management of the Terrestrial circuits, taking preventive and corrective action to minimize system downtime.
• Create and troubleshoot end to end connectivity using software cross connect and physical cross connect information.
• Maintain detailed data on circuit utilization and major outages.
• Conduct research and analysis of tools that will increase efficiency and productivity.
• Develop and deliver training to areas requiring subject matter knowledge.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor degree in Electronic Engineering, related field or equivalent work experience required.
• 3+ years experience in Terrestrial transmission over fiber, digital signals (SONET/SDH), digital multiplexing, facility network architecture (Point-to-Point, Rings, etc.) and Element/Network Management Systems (EMS/NMS) required.
• 3+ years experience in Digital Communications including; Transmission, Data and Switching required.
• 3+ years Network management experience required.
• Prior experience in provisioning and operating Multiplexers required.
• Trouble isolation experience with T1 / E1 / DS3 / OC3 / OC12 / STM1 / STM4. Familiarity with Signaling test equipment and DSX panels connections required.
• Ability to work ONCALL to support 24x7 data operations team in troubleshooting and resolving network communications problems required.
• Basic knowledge of LAN/WAN technologies and routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, and MPLS) preferred.
• Understanding of satellite communication ground control equipment including modems, converters, HPA, LNA, IFL and antenna systems preferred.
• Experience in RF transmission equipment and troubleshooting desired.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and react promptly to real-time issues.

o Optical Certifications
o Telecommunication degree and/or Certificates
o Cisco certifications
