UNIX/Linux Systems Engineer with Strong Coding Skills

 

Macrovision is looking for a hands-on systems engineer to own all technical aspects of our Blu-ray disc authoring process. You will make key architectural decisions, develop and maintain process and system specifications, troubleshoot hardware and software issues, and design and implement improvements and upgrades. This position is ideal for an engineer with varied experience in programming, systems architecture, IT, and troubleshooting who wants to utilize these skills to lead the building and optimization of entire systems. The ideal candidate has a BS or MS in Computer Science, is proficient in Unix-based programming, system administration, and scripting, and has 4+ years hands-on experience building and troubleshooting production processes based on Linux or BSD.

● Enhance, document, troubleshoot, identify bottlenecks in, and improve current production system and process
● Design, document, and lead implementation of a more automated production system
● Manage all technical aspects of production to improve efficiency and quality

 

Experience and Requirements- Absolutely Required:
● 4+ years of BSD/Linux experience with a strong command of the environment; if needed, capable of performing system administration tasks and troubleshooting computer hardware
● Experience establishing and implementing a technical process, including ownership of process flow documentation and system architecture specifications
● Strong experience in methodically and rapidly troubleshooting software/systems in high-pressure situations
● Proficiency in Python and shell scripting

 

Experience and Requirements- Strongly Recommended
● Broad knowledge of systems, network architecture, data storage, and performance is preferred over specialization in one specific area
● Working knowledge of the GNU tool chain, including gcc and make
● Proficiency in C with experience in system optimization
● BS or MS degree in Computer Science or related discipline from a competitive school

 

Experience and Requirements- Nice to Have:
● Experience with source control tools (preferably Perforce)
● Experience with systems/processes from both a startup and mid-size organization perspective
● FreeBSD experience
