User Interface Designer/Information Architect

A focus on information architecture, prototyping, and usability work is key to this position.  Someone who has experience working with complex data (e.g. dashboards, portals, etc.) and not just consumer websites is needed.  The ability to work with and develop complex end-user applications that manage and organize a lot of data and workflows is required.

A consumer web site designer whose work is consisting of mainly graphic design, visual design, multimedia or web page design will not be an ideal fit for this position.  Due to the nature of the client’s products a typical “web UI designer” that has only done consumer sites will not fit.

Position SummaryTake leadership role in designing attractive, efficient and flexible application UIs for customer-facing applications and internal tools Work closely with the Product Engineering and Product Management teams to identify, prioritize and document product usability requirements Collaborate with Marketing and an external design firm on overall application and web site branding and look-and-feel Develop UI concepts, storyboards and wireframes for common application components, interaction scenarios and navigation Work with UI developers to prototype and validate proposed designs Conduct usability testing to validate proposed designs

Technical SkillsExperience designing complex, highly interactive desktop and/or web applications (and not just content-centric web sites) Background in information portal design, dashboard development and data visualization Fluent in HTML and CSS.  Real-world design experience using at least one rich UI toolkit (preferably Adobe Flex) is highly desirable. Ability to perform application storyboarding and low-fidelity prototyping Sufficient understanding of web development technology to interact with application UI developers to implement design concepts Familiarity with agile/iterative development methodologies (XP, SCRUM, etc.)


General SkillsAbility to work with distributed development teams in a dynamic, iterative development process Occasional overnight travel to other client offices in the U.S. may be required Excellent oral and written communication skills
