Vice President, Engineering

Books24x7, a SkillSoft Company, is a leading SaaS provider of on-demand business, technical and engineering content containing thousands of digitized "best-in-class" books, book summaries, research reports and best practices. The Books24x7 on Demand Platform enables users to search, browse, read and collaborate with other users of these vast professional libraries. Books24x7 also offers a PDA-accessible site to allow mobile users to access the company's broad range of content from their internet-enable PDA devices. Books24x7's product offerings support workers across the enterprise in acquiring knowledge when and where needed. Customers that have adopted Books24x7 solutions include global enterprises, government, education and small to medium-sized businesses spanning over 50 industries.

 

The VP, Engineering is responsible for Books24x7 engineering department.  This position will manage the design and development of the Books24x7 On-Demand informal learning SAAS platform as well as QA, Second-Level Technical Support, IT and Hosting Center Management.


Key Responsibilities:

 Oversee development team on design and development of Books24x7 products Provide strategic technical direction to Books24x7 executive managementMaintain/communicate to the organization the engineering roadmap and regular updates on statusReview of functional requirements in conjunction with business partners; development of technical designs in support of multiple, concurrent projects Develop budgets and resource allocation plans in support of product and technical roadmaps Provide coaching and management support to direct reports and staff  Manage technical dependencies in large, multi faceted product releases across several technical groups; driving task completion in support of project milestonesEnsure strong lines of communication and synchronicity of development plans and objectives with SkillSoft engineering management Develop and manage to specific key site usage and performance metrics


Experience:15+ years experience with software design and development, preferably in web based information services companies5+ years management of technical teams including resource allocation and budgeting  Extensive experience in managing web based products developed for commercial enterprise consumptionStrong technical familiarity with Web 2.0 trends and capabilitiesExperience building out database-driven websites with published content that is digitizedExperience with search engines and collaborative application architecturesExperience with large-scale database as well as XML data structures and toolsExperience of mobile computing strategies and  architectures

Education:


BS in Computer Science or related discipline. MS preferred.
