Web Application Support Specialist
You will be responsible for providing Level 2 functional and technical support for business applications within the Agentrics GenSource/GenShare product lines. Agentrics is the retail industry’s largest commercial collaboration platform for retailers and their trading partners.
Responsibilities - The Application Support Specialist will:
· Demonstrate excellent troubleshooting skills for all tiers of a web application, including client browsers and PCs; general LAN/WAN configurations; effects of general firewall, proxy and web-filtering server configurations; last-leg network configurations; Internet quirks; web servers; application servers; database servers and all interactions therein
· Instruct and mentor Level 1 Support in support and troubleshooting techniques and processes
· Deploy new releases of applications on a Unix and Windows environments to include scripting, deployment of patches/releases, configuration of application components and environments, testing, documentation of activities
· Work with product stakeholders (software builds and deployment, issue escalation, etc.) to understand what they want improved and what they should improve
· Work to apply best industry practices around IT service support
· Provide day-to-day technical and functional expertise
· Document processes and configurations
Required Qualifications
· Experience in development, operations or support groups (2-3 years)
· Experience working as an application support or application deployment specialist (1-2 years)
· Experience in administration, maintenance or support of Java-based Web Applications
· Experience on UNIX (Sun Solaris 8, 9 specifically) and Microsoft Windows (2003 specifically) platforms
· Experience with Database Systems and SQL; Oracle and/or DB/2 preferred
· Experience with web servers; Apache, Oracle 10g AS or SunONE preferred
· Ability to write scripts in Unix (Bourne Shell) or Windows Shell, Perl and SQL Scripts
· Ability to clearly communicate in writing (concise emails, documentation); visually (presentations, diagrams, demonstrations); and verbally (one-on-one, small or large groups, technical staff to managers) is important
· Bachelors degree in Computer Science/Information Technology
Desired Skills and Experience:
· Understanding of Java development in a J2EE environment using Servlets, EJBs, JSPs, JDBC, JDNI and JSFs
· Experience in maintenance, management, deployment and/or monitoring web-based applications, such as eCommerce sites, portals (Liferay, WebLogic, WebSphere, Vignette, etc.) or large scale content management systems
· Experience installing, configuring and maintaining Application Servers, especially BEA WebLogic, IBM Websphere or Oracle 10g Application Server; familiarity with more than one preferred
· Experience with direct customer support, release management, development or business analysis; experience in more than one of those areas is preferred (1-3 years)
· Understanding of support best practices (ITIL, COBIT, etc.) helpful; certification in one or more is a plus
· Successful completion of one or more certification programs, including Oracle 10g AS OCA/OCP; MCSE or MCP (Windows 2003 Server); BEA Certified Developer, Administrator or Architect; IBM CSA (WebSphere AS); Certified JBoss Administrator or RHCE.
· Experience with Cyclone/SeeBeyond and/or WebMethods will be a plus
· Experience with application monitoring tools
· Business acumen of the retail, B2B, eCommerce and/or software implementation industries preferred
· Broad cultural business knowledge preferred; how companies in different countries approach problems and work with others in business
· Previous experience working for a global organization and/or working extensively or living abroad a plus
· English is required. Basic knowledge or fluency in any of the following languages is a bonus: French (European or Canadian), German, Japanese, Mandarin, Italian, Portuguese (Brazilian or European) or Spanish (European or Latin American)
