The successful Web Developer will work with a team maintaining and implementing new features in UPS Web Shipping Software.  Must have the ability to interact independently with teams at other UPS locations to ensure all components interface correctly and on time.This position works with business representatives, analysts and team members to utilize the UPS processes and requirements that drive the analysis and design of quality technical solutions.  The primary goal of the Web Developer is to develop, troubleshoot, debug and implement software code (Java, C++, PERL) to support interactive and dynamically generate components of the organizations? website.  They work on assignments of low to moderate complexity translating requirements to program specifications.  The Web Developer writes program specifications of moderate to high complexity from high-level specifications. This position works under the direction of senior web developers to develop site concepts, interface designs, and the architecture of the web site.  The Web Developer applies standard development procedures to ensure the technical, security and quality assurance standards are met. Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of web application development environments.  Proficiency in an object oriented C Syntax style programming language such as C++ or JAVA. Understanding of internet programming concepts such as CGI and Servlets. Proficiency in HTML. Knowledge of XML. Knowledgeable in the use of development tools/industry standards/IS standards. May have knowledge of various approaches in designing, coding and debugging programs. Experience in systems design. Solid understanding of development, testing and integration methodologies. Broad understanding of programming logic concepts and application analysis and design techniques. Ability to communicate orally and in writing with both technical and non-technical staff. Strong analytical thinking skills. Proficient in analysis, design, code, unit test, integration and deployment support. Good planning, organizing, decision-making and problem-solving skills. Thorough with careful attention to detail. Accountabilities: Works with Web Designers and Sr. Web Developers. Also works with all project team members, all support groups, vendors and suppliers. Provides project status reports and may develop work plan timelines to meet project timeframes. May participate in the evaluation of and provide recommendations for application packages. May analyze existing applications to identify weaknesses and develop opportunities for improvements.
