Position Description:  Websphere Portal Architect

Project: Our healthcare sector client is seeking staffing augmentation to design, develop, test, implement and deploy the functionality required from Enterprise Portal Framework (EPF) Release 2.

EPF Release 1.0 was implemented and went live on Dec 26, 2006 with myHR self service functionality, rolled out to NCAL, NW and Texas employees, approx 70,000 users.

 

Staff augmentation for Release 2.1 that will address only the framework capabilities and capacity enhancements to meet the needs of upcoming tenants - NAI followed by Communications and IT.

Release 2.2 that will address the NAI specific business requirements and intake activities, has been excluded from the scope of this release.

The scope of this release primarily includes architectural framework and capability enhancements.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

·  Will be the technical expert on a project team; responsible for the technical success of a project or group of projects.

·  Takes ownership of escalated issues, decides between competing solutions and arbitrates between project teams in a release.

·  Heavily involved in mentoring teams on design and coding best practices, portlet design, service-oriented architecture (SOA), and reuse opportunities.

·  Works with the Architecture and Strategy teams within Company to research new technology and development approaches and create best practices around them.

· Advises on optimal work breakdown to allow releases and projects to take advantage of reuse, standard designs/frameworks and SOA.

 

·  Provides assistance with, and review of, the load testing team's test plans and test cases to ensure early and appropriate load testing is done.

·  Works with project Technical Leads to identify critical/new components for early performance profiling or load testing.

· Ensures release conforms to all security standards and other non-functional requirements.

· Creates, socializes and mentors the use of design and coding best practices and standards.

 

Will have experience with Linux and Open Source tools for software development, Portal technologies, particularly WebSphere Portal, and migration of traditional J2EE web sites to a Portal/SOA based architecture.

 

This is a very hands-on Technical Architect position. The ideal candidate will be very proactive and self directed and be equally comfortable coding in Java as presenting technical concepts and designs to senior leaders in the group. She/he will take initiative in solving complex technical problems in areas which may be outside their technical expertise and coming up with original solutions and design approaches to new project requirements.

 

BASIC/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


----Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, engineering, or equivalent experience.
----10 overall years experience developing and supporting large applications using various tools and technologies.

 

· 7 years experience in IT/OO design/development/architecture with Java/J2EE Design and Development.

· 5 years experience leading and mentoring development teams in design and development best practices.

· 3 years experience with Portal Technology Architecture, Design, Development and Best Practices.

· 3 years experience with WebSphere Portal

· 3 years experience with Interwoven Teamsite

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Strong interpersonal, influencing and communications skills.
Open source development tools, e.g. Subversion, Maven, CruiseControl, ANT.
SOA and Enterprise Service Bus.
JSR 168/286 and WSRP.
SOAP/Web Services/WS-I.
Web Application Security and single sign on technologies.
Rational Application Developer or Eclipse.
Borland Together or other Design tools.
Oracle and Database Design.
