Assistant Corporate Safety Director

Key Areas of Responsibility Responsible for safety management of corporate projects nationwide. Surveys construction projects to identify and evaluate physical conditions, safety practices, hazardous situations and compliance with established safety standards and provide recommends. Reviews history of accidents and claims, and prepares reports and recommendations as required. Coordinates safety of the project as a whole schedule, loss history, upcoming activities, etc. and provides stimulus for proactive loss control efforts. Reviews reports and presents corrective actions for specific situations identified by outside agencies. Participates in accident investigations. Prepares written report (Loss Control Survey) of findings. Assists in establishing safety protocol on site. Interfaces with Insurance brokers, carriers, contractors and other safety professionals to direct and improve effectiveness of safety standards, codes and regulations. Coordinates, develops and /or conducts safety training. Liaison for resolving safety concerns by OSHA, Department of Buildings, Fire Department, Department of Environmental Protection and any other city, state, and federal agency. Assures the proper level of training for subcontractors.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities License NYC DOB Safety Manager. Basic computer (Word, Excel, Lotus Notes) and office equipment skills. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to develop and conduct presentations for safety training purpose. Ability to prepare administrative and technical reports. Minimum 30 OSHA certification but OSHA 500 Certification preferred. Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequence of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals. Ability to interpret and apply Federal and State and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations. Ability to function in a field environment (construction sites) that includes climbing, stooping, working at heights and walking long distances.



Requirements


Requirements High School Diploma (minimum)  College degree desirable, but not required. Degree in Safety (A.S. or B.S.) desirable, but not required Completion of additional safety training (verifiable via certificates, etc.) is desirable. Minimum of five years of verifiable progressive construction safety experience. Previous Safety Management experience for a construction contractor or construction manager desirable. Working knowledge of applicable regulations OSHA Construction Standards, NFPA, Department of Building Safety Standards, etc. Valid Drivers License required.
