Business Development Specialist ENGINEERING YOUR CAREER SUCCESS THE JOB—WHAT IT IS:This position serves as business development representative for the office. The Business Development Specialist actively searches for business opportunities for the firm, assists management in the implementation of the office business goals, objectives and strategies, and assists management in the preparation of qualifications packages, written proposals and other client submittals.THE PERSON—WHAT IT TAKES:Responsible for using his/her personal contacts to develop long-term client relationships.Spends time outside of the organization in direct contact with clients.Schedules meetings with existing and potential clients for purpose of introducing or reminding clients of firm’s technical capabilities in present or new service lines.Uses extensive networking contacts to develop leads and provide new projects from past, existing and future clients.Assists operations managers with the execution of business development programs.Assists in developing proposals to communicate the firm’s qualifications and commitments to present or potential clients.Utilizes the contacts in appropriate professional organizations to network with potential clients and to develop intelligence regarding the firm’s competition.Reports to supervisor on planned and proposed sales activities within his or her goals. May be accountable for generating specified volume of business within a pre-defined time frame.Assists with organization and execution of promotional programs which include professional displays at designated conventions, conferences or professional trade shows.Utilizes the office/client prospective contact system to track clients and record contacts made.Leads office business development meetings and serves as coach to staff on business development activities.Essential Skills/Abilities:Demonstrated ability to participate in and lead activities involving creative and innovative thinking and strategy development.Demonstrated ability to communicate well with technical professionals, corporate management and client groups.Demonstrated ability to effectively organize and coordinate activities.Education/Experience:MS in Marketing or Sales Management or related degree plus at least 1 year of practical experience in sales or marketing of professional services; orBachelor’s degree in Marketing or Sales Management or related degree plus at least 3 years of practical experience in sales or marketing of professional services.THE OPPORTUNITY—WHAT IT MEANS:We are growing together.
