Cost Accountant & Operations Assistant

GEOdyne is a commercial trucking company that employs about 30 employees, mostly drivers. We deliver bulk construction products…. liquid asphalt oil, cement and fly ash to plants located throughout Utah.  Because many of the asphalt and concrete plants are seasonal, for about 6 months per year we also operate our trucks delivering refrigerated loads throughout all 48 states.  GEOdyne is an established, stable company and has been in business many years.  We provide year-round work to all our employees.

 

The position of Accounting Clerk & Dispatch Assistant has a variety of hands-on duties inasmuch as all aspects of the small office, paper flow and accounting are included.  The job requires high production with exact accuracy. All records are maintained on computer.  QuickBooks Pro 2007, trucking software (some web-based), and Excel spreadsheets are used extensively.
 

DUTIES

ACCOUNTING
Track miles driven by truck & corresponding fuel purchased. Cost accounting. Maintain ledgers of driver payroll advances & expense reimbursement. Various tax returns preparation (permitting, mileage & fuel taxes) Driver hour of service (HOS) auditing using imaging software.  Prepare weekly reports.


SOFTWARE
Learn our company's software systems & be creative in suggesting how we can become more efficient.


DISPATCH SUPPORTAssist in finding truck loads Use mobile communications system (web based) for driver dispatches. Issue electronic payments to infrequent vendors. Operations backup during busy times by fielding customer orders & issue driver dispatch.

 

SKILLS, EDUCATION & APTITUDE REQUIREDSolid accounting background.  Experience and/or education minimum of 4 years.

Strong Excel user; comfortable with computerized accounting records and attentive to detail.After training there will be little supervision.  Must be disciplined with a strong work ethic. Detail oriented.Must thrive on accuracy, personal organization & detail.Speed & accuracy with data entry (keyboard, mouse & 10-key) with a love for detail.Ability to relate to, support and communicate with the blue-collar drivers and mechanics whom we employ. (Did you notice that this is a very detail-oriented job requiring a very detail-oriented employee?)

 

The office environment is very active but pleasant.  We enjoy recently remodeled offices and enforce a non-smoking office policy.  Currently there are 4 office personnel. We are using dispatching software that integrates with QuickBooks Pro 2007, but will be shortly making a change to a single provider of industry specific dispatching software called  TruckMate.

Helpful, but not necessry: QuickBooks, MS Access, Crystal Reports, SQL queeries.

Part-time: Possibility for highly skilled employee to work 20 to 30 hours per week.
