Designer
East Coast Fire Protection, Inc., a premier life safety contractor with 15 offices along the East Coast, is seeking to add a dynamic Designer to our teams in Chesapeake, Virginia. We are a stable organization looking for a highly motivated professional associate who wants to succeed and have fun in a fast-paced environment.
A Designer is responsible for operating with minimal supervision while completing project designs and submittals. Expected to be very familiar with ECFP’s quality documents, procedures, and work instructions as they are related to the design function.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Design automatic sprinkler systems including fire pumps, tanks, wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge systems. Assist in preparation of Alarm and Special Hazard System submittals. Perform hydraulic calculations for each design. Prepare submittal packages to send to Architects, Engineers, & (AHJ) Authority Having Jurisdiction and subsequent correspondence to achieve design approval. With assistance from the Design Manager, a Senior Sprinkler Designer, or others, prepare fabrication lists for pipe fabrication vendor and requisition materials for job. With assistance from the Design Manager, a Senior Sprinkler Designer, or others, perform field surveys to ensure design is appropriate for structure. Assist field personnel with design related installation issues. Prepare and submit final job closeout documents after final acceptance testing.
QUALIFICATIONS
BS in engineering related field or High School Diploma with 4 years of related training and/or experience Strong working knowledge of fire sprinkler codes. NICET II or NICET III preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered assuming individual pursues NICET education. Strong mathematical skills for hydraulic calculation Strong organizational skills Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, experience with AutoCAD, HydraCAD software a plus Strong communication skills – both oral and written Ability to work in a “TEAM” setting
