Director of Compensation and Benefits

Summary

Director of Compensation and Benefits is responsible for planning, directing and supervising the implementation, administration and review of employee compensation and benefit programs, in order to attract, retain, and motivate employees while ensuring compliance with appropriate federal and state regulations.

ResponsibilitiesIdentify, develop and implement compensation structures and administrative guidelines in accordance with company compensation philosophy. Manage programs such as: deferred compensation plans, variable compensation plans, health insurance, disability insurance, life insurance, employee assistance, 401(k), and other company plans and programs. Analyze company compensation policies in relation to similar jobs in comparable industries or geographic areas, and recommend changes as appropriate to establish and maintain competitive pay rates and ensure equity. Conduct job analysis to determine appropriate market pricing; review and approve salary increases and advise management on compensation actions for employees. Participate in development and administration of performance review system to ensure compliance with salary administration guidelines. Oversee the development and implementation of new benefit policies and procedures; supervise the preparation and communication of information to employees and former employees about benefit programs, procedures, changes, and government-mandated disclosures. Oversee the coordination of benefit audits and IRS 401(k) testing. Oversee the contracts and negotiations with benefit plan providers, vendors, auditors, and consultants for services, premiums, and plan administration. Provide education and training to direct reports, operations personnel, and management as needed and when implementation and/or changes occur to benefit and compensation programs. Maintain knowledge of government regulations, benefit program trends, and practices among similar organizations Administers the stock plan through the management of an external stock plan administrator. Primary contact to stock plan participants. Works with accounting, legal and tax departments to ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance with all tax laws and the stock plan. Administers the management incentive plan, including processing of annual bonuses.

QualificationsBachelor’s degree in related field; 7-9 years experience in a Benefits and/or Compensation environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software programs; expert/advanced knowledge of Excel Knowledge of federal and state wage and labor laws. Possess excellent problem solving, communication and presentation skills. Possess solid leadership in change management. Ability to interface and maintain effective relationships with all departments and employees in a team oriented environment.
