Electrician and Plumber Positions - Full-time/Union

Duquesne University has two (2) positions currently available within Facilities Management. JOURNEYMAN II - ELECTRICIAN


Salary: $22.08/hr

NATURE OF WORK:

This is a responsible maintenance position requiring skilled electrical work and a thorough knowledge of electrical codes and principles.



ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK:
 

1. Performs skilled work to install, maintain, repair or adjust all elements and components associated with the distribution and use of electric power on campus.
2. Works from drawings and specifications.
3. Prepares reports and maintains records. 

4. Assigns and directs work of General Mechanic Trainees.
5. Drives truck and moves material.
6. Performs related work as needed.
 

REQUIREMENTS OF WORK:

The successful candidate will have earned a high school or vocational school diploma and have a minimum of six years experience to qualify as a journeyman.   Registered electrician’s license with the City of Pittsburgh and a valid driver’s license is required, or any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:  thorough knowledge of electrical principles, the National Electrical Code, and safety; ability to work well with others and direct General Mechanic Trainees; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the University Community. JOURNEYMAN II - PLUMBER

NATURE OF WORK:
This position is responsible for general maintenance mechanic duties as assigned by a Maintenance Supervisor in areas of installations, maintenance, and repair of all components associated with plumbing. 

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK:

1. Inspects, adjusts, services, and repairs plumbing fixtures and systems and all elements and components associated with plumbing operation.
2. Assists in preparation of material lists.
3. Maintains records.
4. Diagnoses and correct deficiencies in existing plumbing systems.


5.  Performs other related duties as needed.
 

REQUIREMENTS OF WORK:
The successful candidate will have earned a high school diploma or vocational school degree and/or apprenticeship, possess a registered plumber’s license issued by Allegheny County and have a valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License – Class I, and have a minimum of 5 years experience in the field, or any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following: knowledge of plumbing and plumbing sanitary codes; ability to work with and supervise the work of others; ability to perform physically demanding work; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the University Community.
