Meruelo Enterprices, Inc.  is a leading company in the underground construction and engineering industry.  We perform engineering specification design/development and the actual construction of large utility infrastructure projects in the electricity, telephone, oil & gas, water, sewer, storm drain markets. We are headquartered in Los Angeles with business units in LA, Riverside, and Ventura performing work throughout California.

 

We have an exciting opportunity for an entry level position for a Junior Safety Officer in Norwalk, CA.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Conduct announced and unannounced occupational safety and health inspections of company facilities, equipment, materials, operations and job sites to ensure compliance with corporate safety policy, and all federal, state and local regulations.Assist in industrial hygiene surveys, as required.  Review all accidents, take corrective action as needed and make recommendations to prevent future occurrences.Analyze inspection findings to determine the need for employee safety training.  Recommend safety equipment to be used or worn; coordinate with safety committees and the purchasing departments concerning the purchase, storage and issuance of approved safety equipment and products for employees.Analyze all loss data to determine causes of injuries; develop trend analysis and statistical summary of accidents and injuries.Attend and participate in professional safety organization projects.Assists with the supervision and administration of safety, first aid and rescue squad activities including work assignments, personnel administration, staffing, training, etc.Conduct work area surveillance inspections, air-sampling tests for confined space entry, property damage and personal injury investigations.Review documentation to insure all required records and reports are complete, accurate and submitted per established procedures, and implement appropriate corrective action as required.Perform additional duties as assigned by the Safety Director.   

 EDUCATION:One to two years occupational safety/health education or equivalent training and practical experience.

 

LICENSE: Possess or ability to obtain a valid class C California driver's license

 

EXPERIENCE:

· Knowledge and understanding in the implementation of safety and risk management programs which comply with all federal, state and local laws.

· Able to identify hazardous situations and proactively implement corrective measures. 

·Knowledge and understanding of compliance with safety regulations, regulatory requirement and industry standards for construction and general industry; knowledge of EPA, DOT and NEPA standards.
