Estimator/Project Cost Control

Overview:

Position responsibilities include, but are not be limited to, working with Project Executives, Managers and Superintendents in developing estimates, soliciting subcontractor and supplier quotes and updates, and performing project cost analysis for project status, change orders and claims.


Responsibilities:Participate/lead effort to generate and negotiate subcontracts (with contracts personnel support) post award according to project schedule. Develop and update cost loaded schedules and/or schedules of value. Develop and maintain project cost accounting systems. Perform monthly project updates and create target comparison and periodic look-ahead. Participate in project cost review and monitoring as required. Accumulate and access historical data, for use in maintaining a realistic basis for future planning and forecasting. Periodic visits to projects throughout the US for cost review and analysis as required. Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications:Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or related field. 5 years successful experience preparing summary and detailed estimates in the proposal and post award phase, negotiating subcontracts and meeting budgets for building projects ranging from $1M to $25M. Ability to read and understand RFP's, building plans and specifications in UFGS, CSI and/or AIA format is essential. Intimate knowledge of building construction, materials, systems, market conditions and trade practices and software. Familiarity with all phases of construction including earthwork & site preparation, foundations, structural systems, framing, doors, windows, hardware, finishes, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems for private and public office and apartment type single and multi-story buildings. Experience in qualifying subs for major projects before and after project award, including experience and past performance, insurance, bonding, etc. Experience developing local site subcontractor team and general company subcontractor base. Experience assimilating design information, drawings and specifications, and drafting scopes of work to create packages for subcontractors and suppliers to properly bid project work in a fast tracked proposal process. Experience estimating all or part of the project as required in conjunction with subcontractor and supplier quotes for proposals and initial project budgets. Experience in buying out projects as required post award. Experience in minimizing exposure to and resolving subcontractor disputes and claims if they arise. Proficiency with all MS Office software, including Excel, and construction industry estimating and cost accounting software and databases. Ability to work with minimum information. Excellent oral and written skills required. Ideal candidates will have Federal Government and MilCon project experience.
