Fuel Engineer

 

NAVAL REACTORS FACILITY - IDAHO FALLS, IDAHO

The Naval Reactors Facility (NRF) is operated for the Department of Energy by Bechtel Bettis, Inc., and is located at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL). NRF receives, examines and prepares naval spent nuclear fuel for temporary storage. The information derived from the examinations provides engineering data on nuclear reactor environments, material behavior, and design performance. This data is used to develop new technology and to improve the cost-effectiveness of existing designs.

NRF is seeking Fuel Engineers with various experience levels. Duties and responsibilities will include: 

 Prepare for and execute the receipt, installation, testing, checkout, and maintenance of nuclear fuel modules processing and handling equipment. Provide technical support of fuel module processing. Provide technical support for maintaining shielded containers and engineering processes used to move fuel. Design and procure all supplied equipment for the assigned process. Meet all technical requirements associated with the assigned process in a timely manner that supports the project plan.

 

Education/Experience

 

A Bachelor's degree in engineering or other technical degree is required.  Other desirable qualifications include demonstrated project management, leadership experience with diverse teams, and a demonstrated ability to work and communicate with outside organizations.  A qualification of Engineer of Radiological and Environmental Work must be obtained upon appointment to this position.
