HEAVY DRILL EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE SUPERINTENDENT

HEAVY DRILL EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE SUPERINTENDENTOVERVIEWThis is a hands-on service manager’s type position directing, planning, guiding, scheduling and working on the road with mechanics on very specialized heavy capital equipment (yellow machines) that includes the compliment of typical earthmoving equipment and also includes very heavy and sophisticated drilling equipment. This is SITE WORK, and the Equipment Maintenance Superintendent will work on and travel to JOB SITES. While we do get everybody home, it would be reasonable to expect that you will be away from home two weeks at a time. The leader we are looking for is extremely well organized, a good top-down decision maker, and an equipment ace, particularly in the hydraulic and electrical worlds.A DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES SUMMARYThe position is a hands-on field labor management, logistics, relationship management, safety and QC role that requests critical path scheduling and man-loading for preventative maintenance and repair of heavy track and wheel equipment for foundation drilling operations that are perpetually on construction sites. You will review operations upcoming work plans and synchronize the need for routine preventative maintenance work and service against field scheduling requirements for equipment to minimize production interference and maximize efficient maintenance work. You will work day-to-day with and focus on the machine availability requirements as set forth by the Drilling Division Manager, optimizing this operation around the notion of maximum efficiency and availability. The idea is to get as much production out of the equipment as possible without degrading or damaging it.You will assess and respond rapidly to field failures matching personnel resources and equipment resources against a reasonable assessment of the failure. You will manage and make field assignments and coordinate logistics for approximately six mobile mechanics. You will serve as the procedural advisor for field diagnostic work performed by mobile mechanics. You will review findings; formulate best alternatives for repair to balance costs, out of service time, and durability of repairs. You will work hands on side-by-side with mobile mechanics directing technical work, performing systems testing, and verifying quality of repairs. You will establish relationships with regional equipment dealers to insure responsiveness and service integrity as the local point of contact. You will coordinate dealer service requirements (service contract reviews, P.O. requests, payments) with central fleet operations and accounting as necessary. You will manage and approve time sheets, travel requests, expense vouchers and vacation for field mechanical staff. You will perform job performance and merit reviews of field mechanics. You will work towards efficiency and optimize field hours. You will review field inventories, and generate purchase orders. You will provide administrative support by sending detailed records regarding maintenance and repair immediately back to central fleet operations for entry into a central data base. We may set you up as a remote for direct data entry from the field. You will use technology to track equipment status, and keep records of failures. Anything that reduces time and wasted motion must be applied to these efforts and that will include digital cameras and even video to relay precise field circumstances back to you and on to central fleet operations such that immediate assessments can be made doing the least amount of travel. You can often seen all you need to see in a picture. You can often see and hear what you need in a video. If all that fails, off you go.You must technically up to date on vendor systems, and attend courses necessary to maintain required certifications.AND WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO DO THIS?Size, success, stability, loyalty, career growth and genuine business integrity. We are a high quality, high integrity and exceptionally stable public works contractor with a history that dates back into the 1920s. We are private, not a family business, profitable and run as an open book company. We have continuously grown, we have planned and continue to plan that growth and it has been done under control. The business we pursue is diverse government systems construction / public works. With divisions addressing the utilities, water, airports, transit and highway transport, the work is essential to the nation and stable. Our growth and success does not track the economy at large. That was a nice way of saying that the economy can completely tank but YOU will be collecting a good pay check all the way. Consumer spending does not stop wastewater work, airport constructions, major power grid expansions, highways and other public works projects. Government job money does not track home mortgages or the Middle East. Our fleet services division is part of a system of related business units that makes our whole business program work. You will work directly with the Drilling Division Manager and Fleet Services Director for mission direction and to understand needs and issues. We have that half century plus of local, regional and national relationships and we are a cherished customer. You will benefit from service arrangements and purchasing power that is unique. You will receive attention and support from the vendors that is a result of our buying power and credit worthiness. It’s funny how people respond to vendors that always PAY THEIR BILLS.The point of all of this input is that we are a career destination and we are a growth company that does so by formal plan. We are already one of the top rated specialty contractors in the USA and we push every day. We have a multi-state footprint and we are a national rather than regional contractor. The fleet system has doubled in size in the past 10 years and the specialty civil and drill operations team you would be joining is the most profitable division we have and we will grow that division. We have machines with seven figure single unit price tags and we have more than a few such pieces. This is a sophisticated operation and the capital equipment is complex and demanding to keep in service.Management is both smart and reasonable. The company has a culture that can be defined by willingness to train and mentor, we have the desire and make the effort to promote from within wherever possible. That effort to bring our people up is part of our culture. This is a class organization run in a smart, ethical and high performance way.We are constantly looking ahead and trying to improve working conditions, invent tools and systems that make jobs easier and safer and generally look at improving everything on an ongoing basis. The shop operations are tied through a database system to an overall enterprise resource management system. We run the company, every department and every job under control.Where you invest your career years determines the possibilities for your career and the goodness and security of your future. We are a fierce and sometimes an unbeatable competitor because we have been great inventors. Many of our machines are specialized, purpose built inventions of our own that no manufacturer has brought to market. We look at many challenging jobs and actually build specialized equipment, even what you would refer to as custom heavy class equipment to run that work. Management here has that future orientation and the wiliness to invest in big dollar capital equipment and R&D to produce machinery systems that afford the company unmatched productivity. We have brilliant strategists and risk managers. We’ve got the right markets, we have got the work, we have the financial strength, we have the smarts, we are a friendly loyal team and that is what makes us a great place for you.LOCATIONThe only criteria is near a major airport.PAY, BENEFITSPay is negotiable based on experience, but this is a $100K+ job for anyone that begins to qualify for it. Even though this is a management position, it is structured within a union framework, and 25% of salary (that is 25% out of our pocket in addition to the salary we pay you) goes to your health, dental, vision and pension. It is a very high quality package. We provide a vehicle, generally a 4WD truck, and a cell, laptop. There is a credit card for business gas, travel expenses and lodging and a per diem for food on the road. It is typically not the money that prevents our deals from coming together.CONTACTSWe set up a consultant (who pulled wrenches himself) to help answer some basic questions for you. He is instructed to pass us information only if you elect to move forward. If after talking this is not of interest, he is instructed not to pass anything forward, insuring total confidentiality and privacy.Email address: site@entermail.net SUBJECT LINE: DRILL
