New Honeywell UtilityPRO Thermostat Will Help Reduce Peak Energy Consumption and Drive Savings for an Estimated 420,000 Households

MINNEAPOLIS, March 6, 2008 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced that Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE), a subsidiary of Constellation Energy, has selected the company to provide marketing, installation and call center support for the utility’s residential Demand Response Infrastructure (DRI) program. The new Honeywell UtilityPRO™ thermostat also will be a key incentive for the program, which will help cut energy costs for participating customers and give the utility greater control of peak consumption on hot days when air conditioning use strains the power grid.

BGE and Honeywell expect to enroll an estimated 420,000 customers in the program, almost 50 percent of the utility’s residential customer base with central air conditioning. This is 20 to 30 percent above typical demand response participation, making this one of the country’s largest and most significant residential programs to date. BGE estimates its DRI program will reduce over 600 megawatts of peak energy use by 2012, equivalent to the generation capacity of a small- to mid-sized power plant.

This position is located in our Golden Ring Rd facility in Baltimore, MD and is for our new Demand response program for BGE. Our contract is to install 450,000 load control devices (both thermostats and switches) over a 40 month period. The position reports to the Energy Efficiency District Manager located at the same facility. Duties include;-developing safety and QA plan for new BGE DR contract-coordinating with client's Safety lead on HSE plan creation and monitoring-completing all safety trainings for office-complete all contract required QA and safety inspections-complete all QA and safety reporting-work closely with Energy Efficiency DM to ensure that all safety goals are met.

Role & Responsibilities

This position develops, implements and maintains safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental programs and systems to assure compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements and to assure protection of our people, assets and community at large.  Participates in the early stages of projects involving new products, materials, procedures, processes and facility design to assure proper consideration of environmental, safety and industrial hygiene concerns.  Process owner for HSE programs in areas such as:  Safety Investigation, Safety Training, Incident Investagtion,  Machine Guarding, Confined Space, Respiratory Protection, Job Safety Analysis, Pollution Prevention, Waste Management, Environmental Compliance and Reporting, and Safety and Health Training, revises programs as needed to maintain a safety, healthful and productive work environment.  Provides leadership and technical support to all employees to achieve site HSE performance goals in areas such as Total Case Incidence Rate (TCIR), Lost Workday Away Incidence Rate (LWAIR), and HSE program maturity.  Ensures site HSE performance improvement activities are defined, scheduled, and budgeted.  Manages activities against performance measures such as cost, quality, and timeliness. Coordinates audits, surveys, investigations and inspections conducted by company and regulatory personnel. 


Basic Qualifications:

BS in HSE field, BS Engineering or other BS Science.
Minimum five years experience in HSE field
Background in Health and Safety Management Systems


Certified Safety professional (CSP) desirable
