HVAC Controls Engineer (NiagaraAX Experienced Preferred)

Therma, a leading design-build mechanical construction contractor with a long history of completing technically challenging projects serving a wide variety of clients in and around Silicon Valley, is seeking  for an HVAC controls engineer to be responsible for the design of HVAC controls systems, as well as the development of procedures used in the installation, commissioning, and documentation of controls projects. Apply basic knowledge of engineering principles and practices for work on assigned projects. Designs cost effective control solutions to meet project requirements. Works directly on the controls project team to assist the Project Manager with project commissioning.



Essential Job Functions include:(Other functions may be assigned.)

·        Responsible for creating installation drawings, submittal drawings, as-built drawings and final validation of system operation.

·        Responsible for the sequence of operations which meet the project requirements.

·        Validates the engineered bill of material costs.

·        Produces point-to-point wiring diagrams.

·        Provides engineering direction and support to other team members.

·        Responsible for basic design and programming activities utilizing direct digital controls, for electronic and pneumatic comfort control and automation systems.

·        Develops control programming and graphics for control systems.

·        Develops installation manuals, training documentation, and quality assurance forms for use by subcontractors and customers.

·        Assists Controls Technicians as required with programming, electrical terminations, commissioning, graphic development, test and startup.

·        Serve as in-house reference for issues arising in customer jobs sites or system designs related to HVAC, refrigeration, electrical distribution, power quality or similar.

·        Provides technical support to salesmen, installers, and customers.

Required Qualifications

·        Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in electrical engineering and a certificate in HVAC or AAS and BAS in electrical engineering and 4-5 years field related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

·        Must be a self-starter, with ability to work well as part of a team and independently.

·        Must have PC experience in Windows environments, working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, Web-enabled applications, AutoCad, Visio and database software.

·        Familiarity with the concepts of design build, new construction, renovation/retrofit; performance contracting..

·        Able to demonstrate a serious commitment to accuracy and quality while meeting goals or deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

·        1+ years Modbus programming experience

·        1+ years NiagaraAx experience preferred

·        1+ years Java and Object-Oriented Programming experience

·        1+ years experience working with R2

·        3-5 years experience in HVAC Controls or Building Automation configuration and interface.

·        1+ years years using engineering drawing tools specifically AutoCad and Visio.

·        Advanced competency in computer networking and client/server environments.
