Position Description: Project Engineer
Location: Richmond, VA

We have been in business since 1916 are proud to have been richly involved in the development of California. Bigge hauled steel for the building of the Golden Gate Bridge; transported Liberty ship sections during World War II and assisted in the San Francisco Bay Area’s recovery after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.
Today we operate throughout the United States and in key geographies worldwide; providing innovative solutions and quality equipment for heavy lift, heavy transport and other customer needs.
Position Description:
As the Bigge Project Engineer you will be a critical member of Bigge’s Major Projects Team. The Major Projects team is responsible for the planning and execution of highly specialized work related to the transportation and lifting of large components in support of power generation, petrochemical and heavy civil projects throughout the US. Such projects pose significant challenges that require precise planning and a high level of engineering expertise. Bigge’s engineering staff employs innovative design solutions for the handling of components that can weigh in excess of 1,000 tons and can be extremely sensitive.
Bigge engineers are responsible for the:
· Preparation of engineering drawings, calculations and procedures related to the systems selected for the execution of project work
· Development of designs for temporary structures and rigging systems that incorporate both new and existing Bigge fleet equipment to be used in the execution of heavy rigging projects
· Development and oversight of load tests for new equipment
· Supervision of drafting and other support staff assigned to them
· Production of related execution and fabrication drawings
As a Bigge engineer you will interface with customers, Bigge project management and Bigge field supervision on a given project. As the Project Engineer you will be required to travel to project sites, on occasion, to oversee critical lifts and to gather site-related information to assist in the planning of project work.
This position offers the potential for significant upward mobility within the organization, over time. Bigge has offices located in California, Virginia and Washington with new locations being added frequently.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Desired Qualities: To be a self starter and a team playerGood written and verbal communication skillsAbility to give clear direction to support staff and field personnelFamiliarity with a variety of construction methodsAbility to produce designs where constructability is a key consideration
Qualifications: B.S. Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering or Mechanical EngineeringCurrent professional registration or ability to acquire professional registration within one year is required
Required skills: Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word and ExcelA functional knowledge of AutoCAD, with AutoDesk Inventor knowledge considered a plusFamiliarity with structural engineering software such as STAAD or RISA 3D or similar software applicationsFamiliarity with structural steel design is required
Experience: 7-10 years experience in the design of structural steel and reinforced concreteDesign of temporary structures as well as experience working at a large construction site are considered desirableFamiliarity with rigging methods is also considered a plus, but is not required.
