Purchasing Buyer

Works cross functionally with others in the Production Design, Project Management, Purchasing and Production departments to ensure materials are available as needed to meet aggressive manufacturing schedule.  Must be focused on procuring product that meets our quality standards, that is at an appropriate price point and is available when needed to produce units for our customers. 

 Modtech is a construction manufacturing company that builds pre-fabricated commercial buildings, government buildings, Residential, and block head restrooms. We are seeking an individual that has strong knowledge in construction. Some one that has woked in the purchasing department for a construction manufacturing company.

This person will be buying for multi-production lines.

This person must be able to work with vendors and develop relationships.  He/she will be responsible for inventory levels and keeping the perpetual inventory system up-to-date so that on demand information is current and accurate.  Must be able to meet all minimum standards within 90 days.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

 

· Secures lowest cost source for materials used in Modtech businesses.

· Leads procurement of mixed commodities including structural steel components, lumber, paint/coatings, and other construction related materials.

· Procures other commodity groups and manages cost, quality, delivery objectives.

· Buys high dollar – long lead commodity items.

· Reviews prints and plans, then interprets material requirements directly from project drawings.

· Manages inventory levels to assure maximum turns versus best cost to meet company’s business objectives.

· Conducts cycle counts to verify inventory levels and book inventory accuracy.

· Conducts physical inventory with other employees.

· Maintains perpetual inventory through accurate computer and manual inventory transactions.

· Evaluates vendor compliance as the low cost supplier; changes as strategically necessary.

· Manages unbiased vendor relationships with company for all business transactions including sourcing, returns and payments.

· Creates, issues and manages purchase orders in company’s computer system.

· Secures vendors for new items.

· Establishes and uses fair bidding practices to source all materials & secures most cost effective delivery method for sourced materials.

· Actively engages in team work to help solve simple and complex purchasing problems.

· Performs all job duties and responsibilities according to job-specific safety guidelines; wears all appropriate PPE.

· Performs other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

· Associates degree minimum (Bachelor’s degree preferred) or equivalent related experience in the field and a minimum of five years experience in Purchasing or Purchasing support role or proven professional competency as Purchasing Agent I.

· Basic business math proficiency with numbers, fractions, percentiles, decimals, units of measure and the ability to use same to compare and evaluate purchasing business decisions.Ability to interface effectively with vendors.Ability to purchase high dollar long lead time items.

· Ability to identify, set and manage priorities.

· Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.

· Ability to supervise subordinates in the absence of the purchasing manager.

 

Education and/or Experience:

 

· Associates degree minimum (Bachelor’s degree preferred) or equivalent related experience in the field and a minimum of five years experience in Purchasing, Purchasing support role, or proven professional competency as a Purchasing Agent I.

· Experience with managing a perpetual inventory system.

· Experienced negotiator with respect to sourcing for price, quality, delivery, etc.
