POSITION -- SENIOR MATERIALS MANAGEMENT MANAGER COMPANY  One of the worlds largest privately owned engineering-construction firms with projects varying in size from $10M-$800M. The firm has been providing a wide range of industrial clients with engineering, construction and maintenance services for almost 40 years. Approximately 6,000 employees Provides services for the following industries:  Pulp & paper  Petrochemical  Chemical  Power  General Manufacturing LOCATION Position will be at the corporate headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama. REPORTING Position reports operationally to the Vice President, Project Services. SCOPE The Senior Materials Manager for BE&K is responsible for leading a materials management organization, and/or the materials management effort on multiple projects, and/or large, complex “mega” projects. OVERALL ROLE  Leads and participates in the development of materials management policies and procedures. Leads and participates in development of strategic and tactical plans. Establishes and maintains clear goals and expectations. Support company business development activities. Assumes responsibility and accountability for materials management activities for the organization and/or assigned projects. Establishes and implements effective materials management plans and strategies for proposals and projects. Develops and implements staffing plans to support proposal and project requirements. Assign project materials management personnel to proposals and projects. Reviews the preparation of standard materials management instruments including flow-down of prime contract or Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) obligations and risks. Directs the preparation, review and approval of source lists, bid analysis summaries, price and cost analysis, and materials management documents to ensure fair and ethical treatment of suppliers, protect the company’s interests, and promote best value awards. Monitors materials management progress and manages identifications and timely resolution of potential problems, changes, disputes and claims. Participates in the collection of market trends to identify and implement process improvements, reduce costs and increase utilization of resources. Builds productive relationships with other disciplines. Keeps Corporate Management advised of significant materials management issues and potential problem areas. Identifies talent and provides for continuous professional development of personnel through mentoring and stretch assignments.  Evaluates performance of material management staff and provides constructive feedback on an ongoing basis. KEY EXPERIENCE  Candidates generally possess extensive experience in materials management, including 15+ years of experience on engineering and construction projects.  A minimum of 8 years of field experience is preferred.  International experience is a plus. Demonstrated ability to effectively direct a materials management organization to support corporate or project requirements. Must have demonstrated solid field construction experience. Must be able to understand the Company’s organizational divisions and how the Materials Management function can positively impact their goals and efforts. Possess ability to analyze and use estimates to predict key project issues and be able to participate with multi-discipline managers to develop strategic and tactical plans. KEY SKILLS ·  Self-starter with professionally aggressive attitude is a must·  Solid leadership skills to inspire, motivate and manage a staff·  Technically strong·  Good oral and verbal presentation skills·  Mentoring/coaching capabilities·  Effective delegation skills·  Supports and promotes a diverse work environment·  Maintains a program of self-development·  Builds collaborative relationships with other areas of the organization EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS  Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, construction management, economics or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, training and related experience.
