Sr. Construction Inspector

With our cutting-edge technology, outstanding safety record and history of success, it is no wonder that Fluor is #1 in Fortune magazine's "Engineering, Construction" category.The person in this position provides engineering assistance to the Resident Construction Manager (RCM) in inspecting and administering Highway and Bridges construction projects. This may include exercising independent judgment in planning and carrying out recurrent work assignments such as surveying, inspection, contract administration and office work.Major duties include:Coordinate inspection activities on major or multiple construction projects to meet the clients needs in tracking the construction contractor's work schedule.Assign and review inspection activities of subordinates assign to his/her projects. Acts as coach, mentor, and resource for other project inspectors and Material testers by reviewing their work and providing on site inspection training.Reviews and recommends to the RCM any alterations or changes of contract plans and Specifications as necessary.Ensures and document contractors conformance to project plans and specifications through field inspections during construction.Record and document contractor activities daily on General Daily Progress reports, Field inspection report, Temporary protection and traffic control and Erosion and sediment control. Prepare or direct preparation of Quantity and Quality ledger summary book, and supporting documentation notebooks and installation notebooks for construction projects.Maintain current and accurate quality/quantity documentation records andprepare installation notes on a daily basis.Review construction contract plans for constructability, bid quantities and estimates prior to issuance of bidding documents. This includes construction contracts for Bridges, and Roadway portion of highway construction projects.Monitor pile driving; calculate bearing valve of piles; and calculate andmark pile cut-off elevations.Perform minor construction survey work utilizing contract plans anddrawings to re-establish horizontal and vertical controls, constructioncenterline and compute contract quantities.Participate as a member of the work team to maintain a good working relation ship with the client, construction contractor with out jeopardizing the quality of work.Working Conditions1. Frequent relocation to meet the clients needs. 2. Work in inclement weather conditionsThis position is split between an office and a field environment. Daytime travel is frequent. The normal work shift may be irregular and the Senior Project Inspector may be required to work nights and/or weekends subject to contractor schedule.Person in this position is subject occasional exposure to heavy traffic or adverse weather conditions. There are constant interruptions to work routine and must be able to think clearly and act quickly under these conditions.Accepting resumes beginning Nov. 2007 - Feb. 2008March 2008 is the deadline to fill construction inspector positions.Qualifications5+ years of proven experience or (4 Years Degree in Engineering or Construction Management and one year of construction or engineering experience)Willingness to travel to support the construction activities on the projectWillingness to relocate to other field offices/workstations to support the project Good verbal and written communication skillsMust have a working knowledge of MS applications (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel)Valid Driver license To qualify for the project authorized driver program the respective candidate must be evaluated and qualify for Category I. The ability to lift up to 50 LB of material samples is a must.The Construction Inspector must be certified as applicable in the specific type of work being inspected and be familiar with applicable requirements of the Oregon Standard Specifications for Construction. Required certifications must be accomplished within 6 - 12 months of hire. List of required certifications for construction inspectors:Traffic Signal InspectionBridge Construction Inspection Erosion and Sediment ControlDrilled Shaft InspectionGeneral Construction InspectionHMAC InspectionQCT One or all may be required certifications for the construction inspector position.
