SUMMARY:
Welds metal components together with arc welding equipment to fabricate or repair products such as machine parts, plant equipment, process piping and plate, by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Must certify in carbon steel piping. (GTAW & SMAW) 2" stick - carbon steel: 6" stick - carbon steel; stainless steel TIG with and without backing gas. All performed in 6G position. Also certify in (FCAW) (NG) process - Fillet Plate Test. Welds metal plate and piping together using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes. Performs related tasks such thermal cutting and grinding. Read and interpret welding symbols. Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, increases size of metal parts, cuts and bevels plate and piping. Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding. Stamp all welds and maintain welder's log. Properly cut steel using oxy-fuel burning processes including proper safety procedures and set up of equipment.  Arc gouging of metals including proper safety procedures and set up of equipment.  Properly cut metals with plasma cutting system including set up and breakdown. Proficient in use of fitter's measuring tools, i.e.: squares, levels, plumb bobs, angle measuring devices, clamps, etc. to verify proper dimensioning of weldments.   Proficient in knowledge and technique of controlling movement and dimensions of a weldment.  Proficient use of pipe alignment and filet weld gauges. Knowledge and proficiency in setting up SMAW, GTAW, power and sources and accessories including proper polarity and welding current.  Select proper filler wire and shielding and/or backing gases per welding procedure in effect. Understand and interpret basic AWS weld symbols.

Required to train and successfully pass test in oxy-acetylene burning and carbon arc gouging. All 1st class new hires must train and successfully pass test within 6 months from date of hire. Must be proficient in reading and comprehension of welding symbols. Willing and able to cross train into other trades and to perform at minimum levels when required. Able to lead small groups of Team Members with minimum supervision. Must be Full Time, Overtime Participation - when required, and maintain trade tools as required in MDS tool policy. Must comply with all legal and company safety, health and environmental requirements. These are minimum required duties which may be modified at any time by MDS management.
