Corporate Controller
Virginia Beach, VA
Job Summary:
Hands on Controller desired. Coordinates the financial affairs of the Bay Breeze Development Corporation and associated companies; prepares financial analyses of operations, including interim and final financial statements with supporting schedules, for the guidance of management. The Controller is responsible for the company's financial plans and policies, accounting practices, suppliers, maintenance of fiscal records, and the preparation of financial reports. Further responsibilities include general accounting, property accounting, internal auditing, cost accounting, and budgetary controls. Must be able to work in a small company that has many components. This is a hands on comptroller position vice stickly managerial.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Development, analysis, and interpretation of statistical and accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization .
2. Maintains the corporations system of accounts, keeps books and records on all corporate transactions and assets within variety of corporate structures.
3. Prepares reports that outline the company's financial position in the areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and future operations.
4. Coordinates and understands the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, institutes and maintains other planning and control procedures (including the cost accounting system), and analyzes and reports variances.
5. Understands tax planning and compliance with all federal, state, and local guidelines.
6. Furnishes internal reports, revises and updates reports to be more useful and efficient, as well as furnishes external reports as necessary.
7. Evaluates and recommends insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.
8. The Controller is responsible for providing effective financial controls for the corporation.
9. Must be hands on and able to multi-task with minimal staff support.
10. Other additional assignments
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
· BA/BS/MS Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
· CPA certification preferred.
· Preferred experience in the construction/real estate development Industries
· 5+ years of experience in financial management
· Excellent computer skills
· Knowledge of Timberline Construction software and Quick Books
· Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
· Ability to adapt to a growing company structure
