Electrical Engineer

Allied Electric is currently seeking a Junior Engineer.  This individual will be required to meet the following requirements:

  Develop electrical drawings and specifications for Design/Build Electrical Contractor.  Applicant will have a 4-year engineering degree or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience.  A working knowledge of AutoCad is preferred. Computer skills in word processing and spreadsheets.  Math abilities in trigonometry.

 Technical Have knowledge of electrical and energy conservation codes, standards and design practices. Lighting selection, layout and control        Emergency lighting plots and calculation submittals Design primary and secondary services Design feeders and branch circuits Feeder and branch circuit IR drop and overcurrent devices coordination Design grounding systems, surge protection, specify building lightning protection Transformer, generator and UPS selection, overcurrent protection and feeders Motors, fire pump and elevator overcurrent protection and branch circuits Make short circuit and arc fault studies Outlets and raceway for Voice/Data/CATV/MATV Special systems – fire alarm, intercom/paging, nurse call video/media Determine requirements for access control and security systems One-line diagrams, block diagrams Motor and lighting control diagrams; Sketches, elevations and isometric details Schedules, diagrams and system risers Write and issue specifications

 Supervision Provide project technical direction and engineering department management Supervise engineered products development and quality assurance Determine equipment space requirements and access pathway Resolve space conflicts, and design discrepancies Provide engineering budgets and scheduling Prepare project budgets, value engineering and cost containment Working knowledge of construction materials, equipment and techniques Able to prioritize and handle several projects at various levels of engagement Survey existing buildings and equipment Issue Addenda and Bulletins Review shop drawings and submittals Prepare field design change requisitions and ‘as-built’ drawings as required. Maintain project hard copy, electronic files and archives

 Communications Communicate well in person, by telephone and e-mail.  Good writing skills. Attend meeting with other contractors, client or A/E representatives to coordinate discipline’s design effort Consult with Utilities and Authorities having jurisdiction
