Job Summary: --
Prepare proposal estimates (bids) for plumbing and fitting mechanical type projects and have experience reading blueprints, working with design specifications, unions, and safety requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Manage all aspects of the estimating process Use Fast Pipe Bid Estimating software to do piping and fitting take-offs. Review specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of the estimate, including addenda. Prepare piping and fitting take-offs. Visit job sites to verify field conditions Solicit subcontractor bids and vendor quotes. Assemble estimating spreadsheets. Prepare job turnover documents. Working knowledge of project scheduling; CPM (Critical Path Method) Support other department personnel as required. Estimate small to medium sized projects independently. Maintain current files and log. Ability to work in a fast paced environment on multiple projects. Become familiar with the Company’s operations. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in mechanical engineering from four-year college or university or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience. 5-10 years experience in similar wet side/mechanical construction estimating and related functions. Knowledge of estimating strategies and techniques and utilizing that knowledge to support company objectives.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Excellent communication skills (written and oral) are required. The ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write professional reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, engineers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Ability to operate a personal computer using spreadsheet, word processing, data base, and Fast Pipe estimating software.
OTHER SKILLS
Ability to operate a 10-key, fax machine, copy machine and voicemail.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to talk, listen, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. The employee may be required to climb ladders. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate. Noise levels of different job sites may require the use of hearing protection.
