Chemist, Research & Development

Huish Detergents, Inc. is a high quality developer and manufacturer of household cleaning and personal care products. They are looking to hire a person who will support the development of new products and provide laboratory support to the R&D group and other departments as needed.  This person will be responsible for the laboratory work required for the development of new products or processes, maintenance of the lab, and for the performance of required assays.

 

This position will develop new products and processes for the personal care industry including:

a) Developing mixing procedures

b) Conducting stability tests for formulations, packaging components and  finished products

c) Qualifying raw materials and raw material suppliers (stability testing, analyses, availability and feasibility)

d) Conducting pilot studies and test panels for new products and formulas; provide samples and questionnaires to Sales/Marketing and panel participants

e) Following product development cycle from conception through first production run on assigned items

 

You will develop, validate and execute physical, analytical and performance test methods

a) For new products

b) For national brands/competitors’ products

c) For current company products

 

You will be responsible to communicate the results of your work by:

a) Compile data and issue written reports for each project completed for internal and external customers, departmental requests and monthly category testing

b) Assist in providing product performance data/applications suitable for Sales/Marketing publications or presentations

c) Assist in the preparation of at least one presentation or publication per year

d) Maintain research notebooks keeping accurate notes, conclusion s and records; ensure notebooks are appropriately signed and countersigned in a timely manner

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS FOR THE JOB:

 

Bachelor of Science (with at least 2 years of college chemistry) and 4 years of laboratory experience with a minimum of 2 years experience in the household chemical and/or personal care industry

Experience working with some type of analytical instrumentation

Must have the ability and knowledge to handle chemicals safely and know the procedures for cleaning up any laboratory chemical spills
