Environmental Specialist

Perform routine environmental assignments and field office functions requiring application of regulatory and technical knowledge as well as detailed project management.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES Provides technical support and expertise to the Environmental Affairs Manager on multi-media environmental issues, including asbestos, mold, storm water, underground storage tanks, wastewater, waste management, air permitting, hazardous materials management, and emergency response. Perform complete project oversight/management for environmental project components, including: Development of scope of work including regulatory applicability Preparation of bid documents Bid review and selection Ongoing oversight of project Coordination of project implementation thru completion Coordinate and conduct environmental training, site evaluations, and follow up reporting Communication with operations management in order to keep them abreast of new environmental regulations, training options, and applicable projects. Work with the real estate department to provide site assessment documentation and due diligence reports relating to acquisitions and property divestitures. Edit, review, and compile comments for environmental documents including environmental assessments, chemical inventories, underground storage tank reports, environmental fact sheets, and asbestos, lead-based paint reports. Perform research to determine applicability of environmental regulations and practical application of regulations to all environmental projects. Works closely with Company personnel disseminating environmental information and helping to resolve environmental issues. Development of presentations and environmental training materials. Coordinates and completes informational requests to jurisdictional federal, state and local environmental agencies. (i.e. Form R, Tier II, and environmental permitting). Uses specialized knowledge of environmental science to formulate and develop forms, reports and data management tools. Performs research, compilation and maintenance of Company’s environmental management databases and emerging technologies. Compiles and communicates environmental project data and results to other Company organizational units and third party consultants. Develop new and existing information for department website. Work directly with facility managers on renovation and upgrade projects. Negotiate contract/service requirements with 3rd party vendors (i.e. hazardous waste suppliers) SKILLS Demonstrates initiative and the ability to work independently with limited supervision. Prioritizes tasks effectively and performs well in a deadline-oriented environment. Strong project management skills, ability to complete a project from start to finish. Effective Time Management. Displays excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Strong proficiency in the MS Windows environment using Microsoft Office applications. Presentation skills. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Engineering or related discipline. Directly related experience may be substituted for college curriculum. Minimum of 5 years experience in an environmental or related field. General knowledge and understanding of federal and state environmental regulations.
