Manufacturing/Industrial Engineer

Summary:

 

Süd-Chemie Inc.,  a global leader in active, smart and protective packaging products for a diverse array of industries and applications has an immediate opening for a Manufacturing/Industrial Engineer at our location in New Milford, CT.  As part of the New Product Development Team which designs Medical Devices, the Manufacturing/Industrial Engineer is in charge of defining and providing the machines that assemble the different parts and sub-sets. Working closely with the different Project Managers, and the Plant Manager, The Manufacturing/Industrial Engineer defines specifications, selects subcontractors (all machines are purchased externally), reviews the technology proposed for assembly and control,  and follows up the manufacturing of the machines until the final commissioning so that budget, output  and time lines are respected. The manufacturing/Industrial Engineer reports functionally to the Head of Engineering who is based in France.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

 

§ Directly manage 2 or more medium to large size concurrent assembly machine projects. Provide project leadership for all types of assembly machine related Projects

§ Identify, recommend and implement system improvement in design, documentation, training, parts procurement, and standard components

§ Provide technical supports for smaller automation projects in the field of design system improvement or modifications for packaging related processes and equipment

§ Identify new/innovative ideas and areas for improvement related to package design and packaging equipment and processes that could improve manufacturing productivity. Identify and implement corrective and preventive actions through specification revisions,  process, material or procedural modifications as deemed appropriate

§ Formulate functional requirements, system descriptions and protocols, cost analysis/schedules/estimates for capital budgeting, and risk assessments for the automation of primary and secondary packaging equipment/systems. Work with equipment/process designers in developing control strategies and process design. Review equipment and process designs including process flows, isometric drawings, equipment configuration, equipment control and mechanical design

§ Provide design engineering support and technical direction to in-house maintenance departments and outside contractors

§ Develop and implement cost savings and productivity improvement projects in the primary and secondary packaging areas. Participate and/or lead audits, investigations-, FATs, FMEAs and other Projects as required or assigned

Requirements:

 

§ Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Automation Engineering or equivalent mix of education and hands on experience

§ Minimum 5-7 years of proven experience in managing projects to design automated assembly machines

§ Ideal candidate will have experience with assembly of medical devices in a clean room condition and commissioning procedures used in the Pharmaceutical/Medical industry (IQ,OQ,PQ).

§ Experienced in plastic parts assembly

§ Knowledge of 6 sigma methodology would be a plus

§ Experience with CAD Systems such as AutoCAD

§ Basic Computer skills with the Microsoft Office products

§ Extensive knowledge of PLC programming with Omron, AB, and HMI programming

§ Strong skills in Servo Motion control, Denso/Wittmman robotics, Cognex / Keyence Vision Systems, Devicenet / ethernet networking

§ Working knowledge of mechanical devices, such as indexers, pick & place mechanisms, sensors, stepper and servo motors

§ Strong commitment to proper safety precautions in design and practice

§ Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

§ Strong project management and documentation skills
